J.P. Crawford Activated and Starting at Third Base on Tuesday
The Seattle Mariners announced on Tuesday that they reinstated infielder J.P. Crawford (hand) from the 10-day injured list due to a right-hand contusion, and he's starting at third base and batting leadoff in his first game back in Tuesday's series opener against the Baltimore Orioles and right-hander Brandon Young. The 31-year-old veteran spent the minimum time on the IL with a minor right-hand contusion that he suffered after getting hit by a pitch. Now that he's back, he could spend most of his time in Seattle at the hot corner with infield prospect Cole Emerson settling in at the 6. Crawford returns to an ugly .228/.356/.409 slash line with a .766 OPS, 10 home runs, 23 RBI, 31 runs scored, and a stolen base in his 193 at-bats in 2026. He has now reached double-digit home runs in three of the last four seasons, and he's only striking out 18.9% of the time. Still, Crawford is only rostered in 11% of Yahoo leagues with minimal power for a player with shortstop eligibility. He was heating up at the plate before landing on the IL, hitting .333 with four home runs in his last 11 contests.
