Gleyber Torres On The Bench Again Thursday
6 months agoAfter getting benched on Wednesday, New York Yankees second baseman Gleyber Torres remains out of the starting lineup for Thursday's series opener in Toronto against the division-rival Blue Jays. Jahmai Jones will get the nod at the keystone and will bat sixth for the Yankees against Blue Jays right-hander Jose Berrios. Torres just hasn't played well of late, both offensively and defensively, and he's gone 2-for-29 (.069) with a homer, double, four RBI, four walks and seven strikeouts in his last nine games since June 14 to drop his season line to a disappointing .215/.294/.333 with a .628 OPS in 288 at-bats. The 27-year-old should eventually return to the starting lineup this weekend, but fantasy managers may want to keep him on their benches until he shows some signs of life with the lumber. UPDATE: Manager Aaron Boone said "there's a good chance" that Torres is back in the lineup on Friday night.
