Giancarlo Stanton Begins Rehab Assignment on Tuesday
Giancarlo Stanton (elbows) will begin his rehab assignment with the Somerset Patriots on Tuesday night, when the Double-A team hosts the Portland Sea Dogs at TD Bank Ballpark. Stanton has been out all season with tennis elbow in both his elbows. Since he has been sidelined for so long, he will likely need an extended rehab stint in the minors before he gets his rhythm and timing back. The Yankees don't have a clear full-time spot for Stanton in the major-league lineup right now, with Cody Bellinger, Trent Grisham, and Ben Rice in the mix. He could definitely provide platoon help for Rice and Grisham against lefties, though, when he does get back to full strength. In his 114 games last season, Stanton hit .233 with 27 homers and a .330 wOBA, and the Yankees and fantasy managers will hope he can return to a productive role later this season, likely after the All-Star break.
