Mitch Spence to Start on Sunday
Mitch Spence will start on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Pirates, according to Martin Gallegos of MLB.com. Lefty Jeffrey Springs had been scheduled to toe the rubber, but Spence will get the ball after throwing 3 2/3 scoreless innings out of the bullpen and earning a win over the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday. Across 30 appearances and seven starts this season, Spence has gone 3-5 with a 4.48 ERA, a 1.33 WHIP, and 64:24 K:BB in 78 1/3 innings. On paper, the 27-year-old has a favorable matchup against a Pittsburgh offense that ranks last in the majors in both runs and OPS.
