Danny Jansen Has Hand Contusion
1 year agoUpdating a previous report, Toronto Blue Jays catcher Danny Jansen (hand) was taken out of Thursday's game early against the Cleveland Guardians due to a right-hand contusion. Jansen was hit on the right hand by a pitch, but X-rays thankfully came back negative, so we can consider him day-to-day heading into Friday's series opener against the Chicago Cubs. We'd expect to see Jansen get at least one day to rest up, so Alejandro Kirk will probably do the catching on Friday. The 28-year-old Jansen entered Thursday's action with just a .218 batting average (52-for-238), but his 15 home runs at the weak catcher position are useful as he shares time behind the dish for Toronto.
