Adley Rutschman Going on Injured List With Strained Oblique
The Baltimore Orioles placed catcher Adley Rutschman (oblique) on the 10-day injured list on Thursday with a right-oblique strain and recalled outfielder Daniel Johnson from the minors in a corresponding move, according to Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports. With Rutschman on the IL yet again this year, top catching prospect Samuel Basallo will move forward as the O's primary backstop. The 27-year-old Rutschman also missed time in 2025 with a left-oblique strain, and it's just been an injury-plagued, frustrating season for the former No. 1 overall pick. With Baltimore out of playoff contention, the Orioles will likely play it safe with Rutschman, meaning he may not return until the final month of the season in September. The two-time All-Star has hit just .227 (70-for-308) on the year with a career-low nine homers, 29 RBI and 37 runs in 85 games. UPDATE: Interim manager Tony Mansolino said it's a "very mild" strain, but it's still to be determined if Rutschman can play again in 2025.
