Jeff McNeil Out Again on Friday
Jeff McNeil (shoulder) will start on the bench again for Friday's series opener against the division-rival Atlanta Braves at Truist Park. Brett Baty is making another start at the keystone and is hitting out of the six-hole against Braves left-hander Joey Wentz. McNeil is considered day-to-day with soreness in his right shoulder and will miss his second straight game. The 33-year-old former batting champion isn't dealing with anything serious, but when he does return to the starting nine, the Mets could ease him back in the designated hitter spot so that he won't be forced to make throws. McNeil hasn't done much to excite fantasy managers all year, but he has hit a strong .294 (20-for-68) with a homer, six doubles and eight RBI in 18 games in the month of August. Baty has two hits and an RBI in only four career at-bats against Wentz. UPDATE: An MRI exam on McNeil's shoulder came back clean, according to manager Carlos Mendoza. He will be available off the bench on Friday night.
