Cardinals Call Up Adam Kloffenstein, To Make Debut Thursday
6 months agoThe St. Louis Cardinals have called up right-handed pitching prospect Adam Kloffenstein from Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday, according to multiple sources. Kloffenstein, the team's No. 15 prospect per MLB Pipeline, is expected to make his major-league debut at Rickwood Field in Alabama for Thursday's series opener against the San Francisco Giants. The 23-year-old former third-round pick of the Toronto Blue Jays in 2018 earned his first big-league promotion after going 4-4 with a 3.97 ERA and 1.13 WHIP with 68 strikeouts and 29 walks in 77 innings over 14 starts for Memphis this year. The 6-foot-5, 245-pounder doesn't throw as hard as his size might suggest, but what he lacks in velocity, he makes up for by generating a lot of ground balls with his fastball/sinker mix. Kloffenstein will have a midrange matchup on tap against San Fran at a neutral location on Thursday and could stick around in the rotation for a while longer if he impresses.
