Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Bowden Francis (shoulder) threw a side session at the team's complex in Florida and is "doing alright," according to Shi Davidi of Sportsnet. Francis was placed on the 15-day injured list in mid-June with an impingement in his right shoulder. The 29-year-old had struggled in 64 innings (14 starts) before getting injured, posting a 2-8 record with a 6.05 ERA, 1.53 WHIP, and 54 strikeouts. Given that veteran left-hander Eric Lauer has given the Blue Jays solid work in Francis' absence, Francis may not even have a rotation spot when he regains full health. Either way, he'll likely need at least a couple of rehab outings before he's able to return to the big-league mound.--Will Brady
