Angels To Pursue Freddie Freeman?
4 years agoThe Los Angeles Angels hired Atlanta Braves assistant general manager Perry Minasian as their new general manager on Thursday, potentially making it more likely that the Southern California native Freddie Freeman will be targeted by the Angels next offseason. LA will also be clearing future Hall of Fame first baseman Albert Pujols' contract from their books next offseason. However, the Angels are still a long shot given their need for pitching and the fact that Freeman will be a free agent entering his age-32 season. The most likely scenario is that the Braves work out a long-term contract extension with Freeman before he reaches free agency. Freeman is one of three finalists for National League MVP after he led the majors with 23 doubles and had an amazing 1.102 OPS while slashing .341/.462/.640 with 13 home runs and 53 RBI in 262 plate appearances.
