Outfield Waiver Wire Pickups For Fantasy Baseball - Week 12

Jesus Sanchez - Fantasy Baseball Rankings, Draft Sleepers, MLB Injury News

Kevin Hickey's fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups for outfielders and Week 12 of the 2023 MLB season. Consider adding and streaming these free agent hitters.

This article will discuss fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups for the outfield in Week 12 – June 12 through June 18. Whether your team is derailed by injuries or you’re simply ready to give up on your draft day darlings, navigating the waiver wire will be crucial to finding long-term success in fantasy baseball.

As we move through the season, trends fluctuate, and we must learn to react in real-time. When it comes to hot streaks, you have to act fast, or you may miss out. This set of outfield-eligible players may not all have the longest track records or their success could be considered unsustainable. However, you have to take risks early in the season in order to uncover your breakout stars. It will already be too late if you wait until these names are established.

Names listed are in order of roster percentage, not confidence ranking. Position eligibility and roster percentage are based on Yahoo!, so check your leagues for availability!

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball lineup tools and resources:

Outfield Waiver Wire Adds - Standard Leagues

LaMonte Wade Jr., San Francisco Giants - 44% Rostered

Wade's breakout season continues to impress. He's slashing .279/.420/.463 with eight home runs through 61 games. Operating as the Giants' primary leadoff hitter, Wade is getting plenty of opportunities at the dish. Additionally, he has remained in the lineup more often than not against left-handed pitching, despite San Francisco's typically strict platooning on other hitters.

Looking under the hood, Wade's success doesn't appear to be a fluke. He sports a strong .387 xwOBA, .468 xSLG, .264 xBA, and 10.2% barrel rate. The most impressive part of Wade's game is his plate discipline. Despite striking out at an above-average rate, Wade carries an elite 17.9% walk rate and 16.3% chase rate. He's overhauled his approach at the plate in 2023, and the patience is paying dividends.

Joey Wiemer, Milwaukee Brewers - 25% Rostered

The heralded prospect is finally starting to hit his stride in the majors. Wiemer's overall numbers aren't terribly exciting, slashing .225/.297/.414 with eight home runs and 10 stolen bases through 62 games played. However, he's caught fire recently, recording a hit in nine consecutive appearances, including three home runs and three multi-hit efforts in that span.

Wiemer entered 2023 as one of the Brewers' top prospects and a top-100 prospect around the league, per MLB Pipeline. During his minor-league tenure, Wiemer showcased above-average power and excellent base-stealing ability. His recent success is no big surprise, though it remains to be seen if this level of play is sustainable. In any event, with speed and power, Wiemer is capable of compiling fantasy points in numerous ways.

Jack Suwinski, Pittsburgh Pirates - 20% Rostered

Suwinski's batting average continues to regress, but the power numbers and overall batted-ball profile are too good to ignore. He's slashing .238/.351/.500 with 12 home runs through 54 games this season. Suwinski strikes out at a horrible 32.3% rate while whiffing at a similarly terrible 30.7% rate. Putting the bat on the ball is a concern, but Suwinski's elite 14.6% walk rate and disciplined 16.7% chase rate are encouraging.

When Suwinski does put the ball in play, the results have been tremendous. He sports a .502 xSLG alongside equally impressive numbers like a 17.3% barrel rate, 45.2% hard-hit rate, and a 90.5 mph average exit velocity. There's a hot-and-cold nature to Suwinski's output, but the upside is worthwhile.

Jesus Sanchez, Miami Marlins - 13% Rostered

2022 was a disappointing showing for Sanchez, posting a .683 OPS with 13 home runs over 98 appearances. This season has been a completely different story, as he's slashing .286/.364/.543 with six home runs through 40 games. Sanchez's ownership has taken a noticeable step forward over the past week, and that trend should continue.

Taking a look at Sanchez's underlying numbers suggests he can continue his strong production. He carries a .554 xSLG, .401 xwOBA, 13.7% barrel rate, .316 xBA, and a 90.8 mph average exit velocity. There may even be some positive regression in his bat. Sanchez may soon be the most desirable fantasy asset in Miami's blossoming outfield featuring Jorge Soler and Bryan De La Cruz.

Outfield Waiver Wire Adds - Deeper Leagues

Randal Grichuk, Colorado Rockies - 9% Rostered

For players with single-digit ownership, Grichuk stands out as a particularly reliable asset. He missed the first month of the 2023 campaign but has been as consistent as any player in the Rockies' lineup since being activated. Grichuk is slashing .328/.385/.467 through 32 games this season.

Approaching 32 years old, Grichuk's power may have exceeded its prime. He's posted just one home run so far this season, but Grichuk has totaled 14 extra-base hits, suggesting there's some pop left in his bat. He hit 19 home runs across 141 games in 2022, and it's not realistic to expect much more than that going forward. Still, Grichuk is producing plenty of singles and doubles, and playing at Coors always leaves the door open for a power boost.

Will Brennan, Cleveland Guardians - 5% Rostered

Will Brennan is on an underrated hot streak right now. He's hit safely in nine of his last 10 games, posting two home runs and seven multi-hit performances during that span. The 25-year-old got off to a slow start this season, but his slash line is up to a respectable .270/.309/.408 with four home runs and five stolen bases.

Brennan's batted-ball profile and minor-league track record don't suggest he has much of a power upside, but his speed and ability to put the ball in play go a long way. Brennan carries an outstanding 13.6% strikeout rate in addition to producing a .279 xBA. He may be more of a short-term streaming option than a blossoming fantasy stud, but Brennan is certainly trending up at the moment.

Kerry Carpenter, Detroit Tigers - 1% Rostered

Carpenter has missed the majority of the season with an injury, but he's active now and offers plenty of upside for a player that's available in nearly every league. Overall, Carpenter is slashing .260/.313/.494 with four home runs through 22 games in 2023. In two appearances since being activated from the injured list, Carpenter has recorded five hits, including two doubles.

During his first MLB exposure, Carpenter swatted six home runs with a .485 slugging percentage across 31 games in 2022. Given his minor-league reputation as a power hitter, he may be on the verge of a breakout. In 98 games between Double-A and Triple-A last year, Carpenter smashed 30 home runs en route to a 1.025 OPS. Carpenter is unproven in the majors, but his upside is legitimate, and he'll receive every opportunity to succeed in a very weak Detroit lineup.
