ANALYSIS: The Baltimore Orioles are expected to promote third base prospect Coby Mayo from Triple-A Norfolk. Andy Kostka of The Baltimore Banner reported that Mayo was scratched from Norfolk's starting lineup on Friday evening and is on his way to Baltimore. First baseman Ryan Mountcastle (hamstring) is currently day-to-day with hamstring discomfort and could be in line to hit the injured list with Mayo on his way to the majors.

Mayo made his MLB debut last season and received another brief taste of the majors earlier this season. Through his first 21 MLB contests, the No. 17-ranked prospect in baseball struggled as he held a modest .094/.186/.094 slash line. During this sample, Mayo did not tally an extra-base hit and held a high 28:5 K:BB.

However, at Triple-A, Mayo has been one of the most productive power hitters over the last two seasons. Since 2024, Mayo has held an impressive .267/.349/.526 slash line with 33 doubles, 30 home runs, and a .875 OPS through 134 total games. Over his last five games, Mayo has held a .350 AVG with a .900 OPS.

With Jordan Westburg (hamstring) also sidelined, Mayo could find a role to have consistent playing time during his third stint in the majors. Given his high power upside, he is worth adding in all 12+ team formats.
