Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox - Yesterday's Recap

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. - Fantasy Baseball

Ellis Canady reviews last night's MLB box scores (6/12) and provides fun opinions on a variety of topics to help fantasy baseball owners with their lineups.

Welcome to the June 13th edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.

Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.

In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on the Jun 12th games. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Daily Musings

  • THUNDAH! A 410-ft lightning strike from Skye Bolt. (Daily dad joke complete)
  • Dylan's back, back again. Dylan's back, tell a friend. Dylan Moore gives everyone a free Chicken Quesadilla combo in his return (sixth HR/ninth SB)
  • We sent out a missing person alert & look who showed up...Anthony Rendon (fourth tater). Hmm, max exit velo only 106 mph.
  • Can't put Matt Chapman (sixth HR) or DJ LeMahieu (fourth HR) on a milk carton because they brought Rendon back. Maybe we put.....
  • Vladimir Guerrero Jr. thinks he's still doing offseason power/speed workouts. 20th HR/2nd SB. Ok, let's drive around & find a healthy combo meal.
  • PLAKATA! Kelvin Gutierrez getting tons of PT...& the magic has finally happened...his first career HR. **Psst, he hit one in 2019, though.** Who cares. It's a celebration!
  • Ma'am, your son, Trea Turner, was caught red-handed. "I don't believe it. Not my boy."
  • Kyle Schwarber, make sure to send a care package to Kevin Gausman for your 10th HR.
  • Erick Fedde had that cutter Workin'. 39% Whiff rate. 5 IP, 7 K.
  • How cute. Jarrod Dyson (six) & Nicky Lopez (six) skipped hand-in-hand while stealing a base...like Laverne & Shirley.
  • No respect. Wade Miley feels like Rodney Dangerfield. 7 IP, 2 ER, 3 K; 2.92 ERA). He keeps it down low, down low w/ 57% GB rate.
  • Luis Severino investors...slow down, there's been a setback (groin)
  • James Kaprielian, you're not supposed to give away free samples of the fudge. They must pay or else. 6 IP, 4 BB, 7 K.
  • Mike Tauchman took his ball & went home, leaving 7 men on the field.
  • Where did all the Hype-sters go? Jameson Taillon confidence falls & no one there to catch him. (0.1 IP, 4 ER) **Don't laugh. There are people really hurting by that. (Hahahaha)
  • Did people forget that baseball isn't easy? Jackson Kowar w/ 1.1 IP, 4 ER, 3 BB. (5% K, 26% BB is backward from what we want)
  • It's not a Cobb if you don't get egg, avocado & bacon on it. Sometimes, it does leave you with egg on your face. 3 IP, 5 ER, 3 K.
  • Josh Rojas (nine) packin' a double-barrel for home defense.
  • WOAH! Is Jonathan Villar mocking Francisco Lindor...stating he's just as good as him. Lindor hits sixth long ball & Villar follows suit. **But if you look at Villar's stats** I don't want to hear it!!
  • German Marquez, I doubt those in Rochester are impressed (5 IP, 8 ER, 5 K). Please take off your apron. We will hold it until the Brew crew arrives.
  • Marcus Stroman. Great guy, underrated baseball player. 3.69 SIERA. Secret sauce? Ground pounders. 55% GB w/ 36% Chase & 12% SwingStrike rates
  • It's just so windy out here. Can you turn off the fan? **Ok, Tom Murphy, you can stop swinging now.
  • Do you think Isiah Kiner-Falefa is pissed for being passed over the gig in the X-Men movies? (3 SB = 14)
  • Trevor Bauer.....whew.
  • Austin Wynns (one) tried to send a 373-ft letter back home. No, I don't think he owns a hotel in Vegas.
  • Nolan Arenado, if you keep hittin' dingers (12), these people might think they were wrong. Hahahaha. Yeah, right.
  • Freddie Freeman goes Bass fishin'. Catches his 15th of the season.
  • Things were going "Easy, Breezy, Beautiful Covergirl" for Rich Hill until the fifth inning. Damn. I thought it was gonna be an easy W.
  • Progress. 1 HR & 1 K in 8 AB for Cavan Biggio.
  • Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde. Steven Matz w/ 5.2 IP, 1 ER, 8 K vs BOS. Who do we get vs NYY next?
  • 13 runs of support & Dylan Cease cruises to W. 38% Whiff rate. Damn!
  • Hot bat alert. Adam Duvall w/ 3 HR, 2 SB, .269 AVG in last seven games. What?! Not hot enough?
  • You didn't hear us say Paul DeJong was back? Did you hear the eighth explosion off the bat?
  • Hell yeah, I'd buy low on Kyle Tucker. (12th souvenir)

Endgame

Closing Thoughts

  • Appreciation. Your kindness will return to you twofold. There are tons of podcasts, writings, audiobooks, fitness work we appreciate. Take a few minutes with me today to reach out & thank them. It takes no time but has a great impact.
  • Have a great Sunday.
  • (No Fear, Just Fantasy)
