Pedro Strop Doomed To Remain Setup Man

In his second full season with the Chicago Cubs, 30-year-old Dominican Pedro Strop emerged as one of the best setup relievers in the league. In 76 appearances, he recorded 28 holds in 68 innings, finishing tied for fifth in the category. He also had a shot at closer, as Joe Maddon implemented a closer by committee policy at one point in the season, with Strop picking up three saves. His 81 strikeouts and 10.7 K/9 ratio were also among the best rates for relievers. In 2016, you can expect more of the same for Strop. Hector Rondon seemingly remains the closer, so he should be the setup man again, which ultimately kills most of his fantasy value. His only real statistic of value would be holds, but is he worth a draft pick strictly for that? Fantasy baseball owners shouldn’t give Strop any consideration, unless somehow Rondon loses the closer spot again.
