Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 9:
Bucky Irving, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
One of the most bizarre games in modern NFL history led to a huge day for Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Bucky Irving, who broke loose for 170 yards and a touchdown on 27 carries in a 16-0 victory against the Atlanta Falcons.
With the majority of the game played in driving rain and the Bucs' running game churning out first down after first down, Tampa Bay threw the ball only three times and finished with zero completions, the first time since 1974 that an NFL team failed to complete at least one pass.
In addition to Irving's big day, Kenny Gainwell also easily cleared the century mark, going for 140 on 25 carries as Tampa compiled a franchise-record 324 rushing yards. Irving has 487 rushing yards and four touchdowns in his past four games, a hot streak that will keep him firmly on the fantasy radar when Tampa travels to Chicago next week.
Jadarian Price, Seattle Seahawks
Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald said that rookie first-round running back Jadarian Price will have "significantly" fewer restrictions on Sunday against the division-rival Arizona Cardinals in Week 9 than he did in his first game off Injured Reserve in the loss to the Chicago Bears on Monday night, according to Gregg Bell.
It is good news for fantasy managers who have Price in their starting lineups for Week 9, as is the shift from starting quarterback Sam Darnold (quadriceps, ribs) to backup Drew Lock for this week, as the Seahawks figure to lean more on their ground game with Darnold unavailable due to injury. Price played only 48% of the offensive snaps on Monday against Chicago and had 10 carries for 29 yards and two catches for eight yards in a game in which Zach Charbonnet also made his 2026 debut.
Charbonnet played 37% of the snaps and had nine touches for 29 scrimmage yards. Charb should eventually see more work in the Seahawks' crowded backfield, but Price's upside and increasing usage should make him at least an RB3/flex with upside this weekend against Arizona.
In his first four NFL games, the 23-year-old 32nd overall pick from Notre Dame has 38 carries for 148 yards (3.9 yards per carry) and no touchdowns while adding six receptions on 11 targets for 29 yards through the air. Price's first career NFL touchdown could be coming this weekend.
Omar Cooper Jr., New York Jets
New York Jets wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. was a major fantasy disappointment in Sunday's 38-33 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, finishing without a catch or target after consecutive 100-yard performances. The rookie entered Week 8 having caught 11 passes for 218 yards and two touchdowns over his previous two games, but he was completely absent from the passing attack despite Geno Smith throwing for 290 yards and two scores.
Adonai Mitchell emerged as New York's leading receiver with seven catches for 142 yards and a touchdown on nine targets, while Garrett Wilson recorded six receptions for 83 yards on 12 targets.
Cooper's recent success had come on relatively limited volume, with several explosive receptions accounting for much of his production. Sunday's shutout exposed the risks associated with that reliance on big plays, particularly with Mitchell commanding a larger share of the passing opportunities. Cooper still has demonstrated considerable playmaking ability, but this performance makes him a more difficult WR3/flex option to trust until his target involvement becomes more consistent.
Malachi Fields, New York Giants
New York Giants wide receiver Malachi Fields remains an intriguing waiver wire target in 12+ team fantasy football leagues. While the Giants' offense has faced plenty of adversity at the quarterback position this year, it seems like J.J. McCarthy finally has the passing game in a good spot with Jameis Winston benched and Jaxson Dart (knee) out for an extended period of time.
While McCarthy has done a great job boosting the ceilings of Malik Nabers and Isaiah Likely, he has also supported Fields as a solid WR3 option in fantasy football. Fields had a career-high 94% snap share in Week 6, and over his last two games, he has 13 targets, six catches, and 102 yards.
While we'd like to see the rookie catch more than half of the passes thrown his way, we respect his yardage total and view the Notre Dame product as a solid waiver wire pickup ahead of Week 9. One perk of adding Fields is that he should be in the No. 2 receiver role for the rest of the season, so he should continue to offer WR3/flex appeal in deeper leagues for several weeks to come.
