Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Hitters to Target

Dylan Crews, OF, Washington Nationals

34% rostered
FAAB Bid: ~6-8%

Washington Nationals outfielder Dylan Crews is slowly starting to break out. After starting the season down in the minors, Crews is finally emerging as that strong all-around fantasy option. He is batting .283 with three home runs, four doubles, 11 RBI, and two stolen bases over his last 15 games. The 24-year-old has also scored 13 runs during this stretch.

Crews hasn't quite lived up to his prospect status yet, but the talent is obviously there. Given the way he has hit the ball as of late, he is a top waiver wire target in Week 14. Crews currently ranks in the upper half of the league in expected batting average (.264), expected slugging (.468), average exit velocity (91.1 mph), hard-hit rate (44.8%), and bat speed (73.8 mph).

Daulton Varsho, OF, Toronto Blue Jays

32% rostered
FAAB Bid: ~5%

Since coming off the injured list last week, Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Daulton Varsho has been on fire at the plate. He is 7-for-22 with two doubles, two home runs, five RBI, two stolen bases, and two walks in his last five games. While this is a small five-game sample size, Varsho has actually been a solid all-around fantasy option in the first half of the season.

He has a .263 batting average with seven home runs, seven stolen bases, and 31 runs scored on the year. Those current numbers put him on pace for around 15 home runs and 15 stolen bases while carrying a solid batting average. That's enough to make him an add in some 12+ team leagues. His .259 expected batting average and 21.1% pull air rate are both encouraging signs.

Samad Taylor, 2B/OF, San Diego Padres

21% rostered
FAAB Bid: 2-5%

San Diego Padres outfielder Samad Taylor has come out of nowhere to become fantasy relevant. The 27-year-old is batting an impressive .361 with one home run, 11 RBI, and six stolen bases across 17 games this season. If you are in need of some batting average or stolen bases boosts, he could be a viable target on the waiver wire this weekend.

Taylor should remain a great source of batting average and stolen bases moving forward. He has an elite .292 expected batting average and a 95th percentile sprint speed (29.4 ft/sec). As long as the Padres contiue to give the young outfielder consistent at-bats, he should provide solid numbers in both categories.

Caleb Durbin, 2B/3B, Boston Red Sox

20% rostered
FAAB Bid: 5-6%

Boston Red Sox third baseman Caleb Durbin has been the hottest hitter in baseball over the last few weeks. He is batting .483 with three home runs, four doubles, six RBI, and two stolen bases over his last nine games and has a .324/.356/.618 slash line with five home runs, six doubles, 10 RBI, and three stolen bases in the month of June.

Although Durbin owns some uninspiring metrics, it's hard to ignore his recent numbers at the plate. He has been one of the top fantasy third basemen this month and has six multi-hit games over his last eight contests. Durbin is also pulling the ball more this month, which has improved his overall numbers. Fantasy managers should ride his hot streak for the time being.

Jake McCarthy, OF, Colorado Rockies

17% rostered
FAAB Bid: ~6-8%

Colorado Rockies outfielder Jake McCarthy simply needs to be rostered in more leagues. He is on another level at the plate right now and has been a top fantasy player recently. McCarthy is batting .340 with four home runs, seven doubles, one triple, 15 RBI, and three stolen bases over his last 24 games dating back to May 24. The lefty swinging outfielder has provided a little bit of everything during this stretch.

Playing at Coors Field has certainly helped McCarthy's numbers, as he has a .315 batting average with four home runs, eight doubles, three triples, 21 RBI, and five stolen bases across 32 games at home. But it isn't a big drop off from his road numbers (.275 batting average, seven extra-base hits, 11 RBI, and seven stolen bases). So, add him and his 99th percentile sprint speed (29.9 ft/sec) in most formats.

Cooper Ingle, C, Cleveland Guardians

3% rostered
FAAB Bid: ~2%

The Cleveland Guardians called up their No. 3 prospect before Friday's series opener against the Seattle Mariners. Even though Cooper Ingle went 0-for-2 with one walk in his MLB debut, those in deeper leagues should give MLB Pipeline's No. 68 prospect a look.

Ingle posted strong numbers down at Triple-A Columbus to begin the season. He slashed .284/.416/.551 with 12 home runs, nine doubles, 41 RBI, and an 18.2% walk rate. His ability to maintain a .370 xwOBA, .443 expected slugging, 9.3% barrel rate, 47.7% hard-hit rate, and a 19% whiff rate in the minors should give managers some confidence in him at the big league level. He’s an add in some 15-team leagues.

Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Pitchers to Target

Joey Cantillo, RP/SP, Cleveland Guardians

40% rostered
FAAB Bid: ~8-10%

Cleveland Guardians starting pitcher Joey Cantillo just makes the cut on this list as he is rostered in exactly 40% of Yahoo! leagues. That number should only grow in the coming days, as Cantillo is the best pitcher waiver wire pickup of the week. The southpaw has been in a groove on the mound as of late, with a 1.42 ERA over his last three starts.

In his most recent outing, Cantillo threw six innings of one-run ball with nine strikeouts against the Mariners. The biggest difference for him in his last few starts compared to the beginning of the season has been his increased use of the curveball. He threw that pitch 50% of the time on Friday and induced another 10 swings and misses. The slight change in his arsenal has him on the verge of breaking out.

Sean Burke, SP, Chicago White Sox

35% rostered
FAAB Bid: ~3-5%

At this point in the season, Chicago White Sox starting pitcher Sean Burke is worth adding in most 12+ team leagues. He has a 3.71 ERA and 87 strikeouts across 87 1/3 innings pitched and is coming off back-to-back strong starts. Burke threw 7 1/3 innings of one-run ball with eight strikeouts against the Yankees on June 18 and threw 6 1/3 innings of one-run ball with six strikeouts against the Guardians earlier this week.

Although none of his metrics stand out as elite, most of them rank around league average. His expected ERA (3.94), expected batting average against (.238), chase rate (31.2%), strikeout rate (23.9%), walk rate (8.2%), hard-hit rate (36.9%), and barrel rate (7.1%) all rank between the 52nd percentile and 62nd percentile. These solid metrics make him an add in Week 14 of the fantasy baseball season.

Brandon Young, SP, Baltimore Orioles

29% rostered
FAAB Bid: ~6-7%

It's surprising that Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Brandon Young is still available in more than 70% of Yahoo! leagues. His overall pitching numbers for the year are strong (3.07 ERA, 1.262 WHIP, 49 strikeouts), and they have been even better over the last few weeks. Young has a 2.15 ERA and 27 strikeouts across his last six outings dating back to May 24.

His strikeout rate (17.1%) might be poor, and some negative regression might be headed his way in the near future since he owns a 3.97 FIP. But he's still worth adding in 12+ team leagues. He has thrown a quality start in five of his last six starts and threw the ball well against the Dodgers in his last start by throwing five innings of one-run ball with five strikeouts.

Young also has an 83rd percentile chase rate (34%) across his 12 starts this year. If the Orioles right-hander continues to carry a high chase rate, his strikeout numbers could slightly rise as well. Add him now amid a nice stretch on the mound.

Jake Bennett, SP, Boston Red Sox

7% rostered
FAAB Bid: ~5-6%

Boston Red Sox rookie Jake Bennett is one of the top pitcher adds of the week. He has delivered some strong outings in his second go-around in the big leagues. The southpaw threw 5 1/3 innings of two-run ball with five strikeouts against the Blue Jays on June 17 and then threw six shutout innings with nine strikeouts against the Rockies at Coors Field last week.

His recent numbers on the mound, combined with his elite metrics, make him an add in 12+ team leagues in Week 14 of the fantasy baseball season. Bennett currently has a 2.50 ERA, .210 expected batting average against, 40.3% chase rate, 4.7% walk rate, 6.4% barrel rate, 34.6% hard-hit rate, and a 56.4% groundball rate. Don't be afraid to pick up the Red Sox left-hander despite his low rostership.
