Bucky Irving was one of the biggest surprises in fantasy football in 2024. Fantasy managers drafted him in the second round of 2025 drafts based on his excellent skill set and offensive environment.
Things started off well to start the season, but unfortunately, injuries have sidelined the second-year running back for most of the 2025 season. However, Irving has had plenty of time to get healthy and will hopefully return to action soon.

Bucky Irving Injury Update
Bucky Irving was off to a fast start in 2025. Through four weeks, Irving had 71 carries for 237 yards and 19 receptions (on 19 targets) for 193 yards and two touchdowns. The second year running back was the RB9 in PPR points, averaging 18.0 points per game to start the season.

Irving suffered an injury in Week 4’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles that was initially reported as a shoulder and foot injury. Over time, it became clear that the shoulder injury was the bigger issue. Many were optimistic about the severity of his injury because the Buccaneers opted not to place him on injured reserve. Unfortunately, that optimism proved to be unfounded.
The second-year running back has not practiced since Week 4, but there is hope he will return to the starting lineup in Week 10. Of course, there have been very few updates on Irving’s status from head coach Todd Bowles outside of the fact that Irving will be evaluated ahead of Week 10’s matchup against the New England Patriots.
Bucky Irving Fantasy Football Outlook
When Irving returns to the starting lineup, he will instantly become a “set and forget” running back in fantasy once again. Before being injured, Irving was handling 70.2% of Tampa Bay’s offensive snaps, a total that is lower thanks to a 61% effort in the game he was injured. Tampa Bay’s offensive line will also be healthier when he returns (minus right guard Cody Mauch) than when he was knocked out of the lineup. Rachaad White has had positive moments behind the offensive line, but he simply isn't Irving.

If he’s active in Week 10, it is fair to temper expectations against a New England Patriots defense that has shut down rushing attacks in 2025. Thankfully, Tampa Bay has the kind of offense (even with injuries at wide receiver) that can keep the team in neutral and positive game scripts and lead to extended workloads for Irving. It will be essential for fantasy managers to monitor practice reports throughout the week to see what Irving’s status is coming out of the team’s bye week.
Before the injury, Irving was a locked-in top 12 running back every week. It may take him time to fully return to that level, but he should be considered a safe, top-15 option until he is completely up to speed.
