Should I drop Juwan Johnson for fantasy football Week 6? Is Juwan Johnson a safe player to cut? Read the fantasy football waivers outlook.
New Orleans Saints tight end Juwan Johnson was a waiver wire steal, and one of the best tight ends to start in fantasy football, for all of about three weeks. In Week 4, he had just 5.8 PPR fantasy points.
He followed that up with just 3.7 points in Week 5 against the New York Giants. Johnson was targeted 11, nine, and eight times in his first three contests, but has managed just seven combined over his last two.
In those games, Johnson totaled just five catches for 45 yards, an amount that wouldn't even total double-digit PPR fantasy points if it came in a single game. So is it worth dropping Johnson now?

Should I Drop Juwan Johnson in Fantasy Football?
First, we should examine the drivers of Johnson's early production. For the first three weeks of the season, the Saints were one of the most pass-heavy teams in the NFL. Quarterback Spencer Rattler threw 46, 34, and 39 pass attempts in those contests, which ranked top-5 in the NFL over that span.
The pass-happy nature cooled off in Week 4 and Week 5. Rattler threw 27 and 31 pass attempts in those games, completing a total of just 18 and 21 passes, which was much lower than in the first three games. Wide receivers Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed accounted for 16 of Rattler's 21 passes last game.

My best guess is that rather than being an integral part of the passing game, Johnson was simply an outlet for the increased passing volume. His early production seems more due to circumstance than talent, as Johnson has never been one of the NFL's elite tight ends.
In games where New Orleans isn't forced to pass so much to stay in the games and not get blown out, or don't have to work their way back from big deficits, they have the ability to run the ball more heavily. This is especially true with backup running back Kendre Miller playing excellently so far.
Who Should I Pickup for Fantasy Football?
The biggest tight end targets that are most likely to be available in your league are New York Jets TE Mason Taylor and New York Giants tight end Theo Johnson. Taylor had a nice game in Week 5, and though many of his targets came in garbage time, when his team was getting blown out, those still count for fantasy points.

Taylor looks like he could quickly become his team's de-facto WR2, which would be very nice for his PPR scoring moving forward. Simply getting a good target share is massively important because a catch counts for as many points as gaining 10 rushing or receiving yards in full-PPR leagues.
Johnson, meanwhile, has seen his target share leap upwards with new rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart getting the start for the Giants. Dart has made Johnson his primary target in the passing game -- he's tied for the team lead in targets with WR Wan'Dale Robinson over the past two weeks.
2) They are pretty creative with their TE's in the red zone. They use Theo Johnson quite effectively and they have some pretty cool designs. However, it's not too surprising, because they have a real lack of talent at receiver, so they have to win with scheme at RB/TE. pic.twitter.com/WhQZt3Sbce

Despite a tough matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles defense in Week 6, he's probably a solid start to make at TE. With WR Darius Slayton (hamstring) ruled out for that game, there will be even less target competition for him than usual.
And even when Slayton returns, Johnson needs to be heavily involved because the Giants have so little talent at WR, especially after the injury to WR Malik Nabers (knee), who's out for the season.
