Week 3 Running Back Rankings Outlooks

Cam Skettebo, New York Giants

New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo rushed for 45 yards on 11 rushing attempts and a touchdown while catching two of three targets for 14 yards in Sunday's 40-37 overtime loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Skattebo broke off a 24-year run in the fourth quarter, which was the longest run of the day for the Giants.

He later punched it in for his first career touchdown. Skattebo outpaced Tyrone Tracy Jr. 11 to five in rushing attempts on Sunday and could have earned more touches with his great performance against Dallas. Skattebo will look to build on Sunday's performance in Week 3 against the Kansas City Chiefs.  The Giants' rookie RB is only rostered in 58% of leagues and is worth picking up for fantasy teams needing help at running back.

Aaron Jones, Minnesota Vikings

Minnesota Vikings running back Aaron Jones Sr. (hamstring) is unlikely to play in Week 3 against the Cincinnati Bengals, according to head coach Kevin O'Connell. Jones injured his hamstring in Sunday night's 22-6 loss to the Atlanta Falcons in the second half and never returned to the game. Before the injury, the 30-year-old veteran didn't look very good, going for only 23 rushing yards on his five carries. He also didn't catch a single pass while playing only 20 offensive snaps.

Jones was a consistent performer for fantasy managers in 2024 in his first year in Minnesota, but so far in 2025, he has been outshone by Jordan Mason, who will be a must-start in fantasy going forward if Jones misses any games. In addition to Mason having an elevated role, Zavier Scott would be bumped up to RB2 duties and could be worth a look off the waiver wire in deeper formats.

Bhayshul Tuten, Jacksonville Jaguars

Jacksonville Jaguars running back Bhayshul Tuten assumed the team's RB2 role entirely in their 31-27 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. After ex-teammate Tank Bigsby was traded to Philadelphia following Week 1, Tuten figured to operate as Travis Etienne Jr.'s primary backup. LeQuint Allen Jr. still worked in some (11 snaps), but did so behind the former Virginia Tech Hokie (18). While both took the field far fewer than Etienne Jr. (47), Tuten out-touched his rookie counterpart 8-2 on the ground.

Furthermore, he pulled in both of his targets, matching Etienne Jr.'s receptions total, and outgaining him 32-18. There's no question that Etienne Jr. owns the backfield in Jacksonville. Tuten's role should grow as the season continues, though, and the Jags' offense won't always be in its own way.

Rachaad White, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Rachaad White had the game-winning touchdown for the Buccaneers on Monday Night Football, and he was more involved in the game plan throughout Week 2 for Tampa. White played 31% of snaps in Week 2 after playing 24% of snaps in Week 1, and he finished the game with 10 carries for 65 yards and a touchdown while adding two catches for one yard and a critical fumble recovery. White's backfield mate, Bucky Irving was also impressive and effective, totaling 121 yards rushing and receiving and converting a big play to set up White's touchdown.

The timeshare makes both running backs usable for standard-sized leagues, but limits the upside of each of them as well. White is still just a flex option since he'll remain touchdown-reliant as the Bucs take on the Jets in Week 3.

Ashton Jeanty, Las Vegas Raiders

Las Vegas Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty had his second straight underwhelming performance for the Raiders on Monday Night Football against the Chargers. He was limited to 43 yards on 11 carries and one receiving yard on three catches. He didn't get into the end zone like he did in Week 1, leaving his fantasy managers wanting more from their early-round pick. Jeanty said after the game that he's "Just getting used to the speed, honestly." When asked about Jeanty's workload, Coach Pete Carroll said, "We're just getting started. He's breaking into the NFL... He'll get more."

Jeanty still has huge potential going forward, but he hasn't been able to break free for many big plays despite a few nice highlight-reel moments that flash his elusiveness and long-term upside. If you invested in Jeanty, don't bail out yet, and he could even be an interesting buy-low candidate if you think he'll be able to adjust to the speed and be effective later in the season.
