Todd McGill's DraftKings, FanDuel PGA DFS picks for the 2025 Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield Country Club. Picks for daily fantasy golf based on course history
The PGA Tour returned to the homeland last week for the 3M Open, where Kurt Kitayama held off a hungry pack of starving players at TPC Twin Cities. We now push on to the Wyndham Championship, the longtime start to the FedEx Cup Playoffs that is now situated as the final event before the beginning of the three-event Playoff finale. With all the changes made to eligibility and being inside the top 100, this event still has a ton of importance.
Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina, has been the host site of this championship since 2008 and is a classic Donald Ross design that has produced several off-beat winners, which usually makes the beginning of the playoffs a bit more interesting. Names like Aaron Rai, Lucas Glover, and Tom Kim have found sparks here that have fueled some nice runs of play. One thing that every player with a successful history can all be classified in at least one way: they're all ball strikers.

2025 Wyndham Championship
This year's tournament will feature only one player inside the top 10 in the world ranking, Keegan Bradley, who is presumably doing as much Ryder Cup work this week as anything else. With players like Ben Griffin, Andrew Novak, and Max Greyserman in the field, it will make for excellent viewing for his important selections coming in a few weeks.
Aaron Rai hopes to have a successful defense this week, where a commanding run of play last year culminated in a victory for the now 30-year-old. His accuracy off the tee and tournament-leading strokes gained on approach (+2.19) is the type of game it takes to get the job done, even though his prior history wasn't necessarily a glowing spot due to poor putting.
Most of the focus outside of potential winners will be looking at the top 100 bubble without a doubt, since that determines the full members for next season, as well as sets the field for next week's first playoff event in Memphis. Currently, names like Joel Dahmen, Austin Eckroat, and Max Homa currently find themselves on the outside looking in and need a big week to feel much more comfortable heading into next season.

Sedgefield Country Club
Par 70 - 7,131| Greens: Bermudagrass | Designed By: Donald Ross
Built in 1926, this longstanding country club is one of only two courses on the PGA Tour schedule that are Donald Ross designs. It is a bit quirky on approach shots and demands accuracy off the tee to stay in the fairway. Putting is also a heavy stat line to keep focus on, as these designs tend to have a lot of defense built into their greens.
As far as approach play goes, there is a healthy mix across the board, but the real meat and potatoes lie from 100-175 yards. That distance window made up 54.1% of approach shots last year. Depending on the weather, scores can get pretty out of hand, given how short the course can play.
As far as statistics go, strokes gained ball striking, driving accuracy, and strokes gained putting will be heavy factors. For more nuanced metrics, par 4 scoring averages and strokes gained around the green on bermuda surfaces are also smart things to be considered.

The Horse
Sungjae Im
- Notable Finishes: T2 ('22), T9 ('20)
This is a weird entry given how his year has gone, but Sungjae Im has shown a great deal of comfort around Sedgefield in six career starts. His success has been across the board, but ranking fifth in the field in strokes gained off the tee (+0.848) is by far his highest mark.
This season hasn't necessarily gone according to plan as things have gotten deeper into the year, but a return to a familiar spot could help the South Korean find his spark to finish the season strong.
The Ponies
Eric Cole
- Notable Finishes: T7 ('24), T14 ('23)

In two appearances in the Wyndham Championship, Eric Cole appears to have found how to utilize his deadly accuracy and ability to make putts to produce solid finishes both times. His +1.934 total strokes gained average is bolstered by strokes gained on approach (+0.883) and strokes gained putting alone (+1.434), as he averages negative metrics off the tee and around the green.
As long as missing fairways continues to have little effect on his ability to hit quality approach shots, he has some upside. However, it's worth noting that ball striking efforts over his last five starts have been horrendous, so this isn't a pick to feel uber confident about, but he deserves his place here nonetheless.

Webb Simpson
- Notable Finishes: T3 ('19), T5 ('23)
Webb Simpson is a billion under par today, but for some reason this is still all I can think about when I watch him pic.twitter.com/8suX6Q1nhR
— College Golf (@College_Golfers) May 11, 2018
It may feel like Simpson has moved on from the play we were used to seeing a few years ago, but certain places bring out old spirits in guys that allow them to thrive above their normal production; think Fred Couples at Augusta National. I'm not saying he's a shoo-in for another solid finish, but if there was a place that could allow the former U.S. Open Champion to pop off, Sedgefield is likely it.
Ben Griffin
- Notable Finishes: 4th ('22), T7 ('24)

This is a bit of a hot-hand approach pick, but Ben Griffin has produced two top 10 finishes in three career appearances at Sedgefield despite being a bit down the board in terms of total strokes gained average (+1.468). His +1.206 strokes gained on approach average is his leading metric, while a -0.250 strokes gained off the tee average is his only drawback.
Given the success he's experienced this season and hopeful Ryder Cup chances, this is another big week to prove himself ahead of what should be a deep playoff run for the 29-year-old.
