Welcome back to our top starting pitcher fantasy baseball prospects to stash for Week 17 of the 2025 MLB season. This week, we did not see any pitcher promotions with the All-Star break. However, a few of our recurring names have already had their first start of the second half.

We will look at a new No. 4 stash option who has already received a brief taste of the majors during the first half and was quite impressive during his debut.

Andrew Painter, Philadelphia Phillies

Currently At Triple-A

Despite his struggles, Andrew Painter remains in the top spot on our stash list. Earlier in the season, Phillies manager Rob Thomson noted that Painter should be in the mix to make his long-awaited MLB debut in July, meaning his promotion could happen any day.

In his most recent outing, Painter tossed five innings of three-run ball with six hits. In this outing, he allowed no walks and struck out four hitters. Over his last 29 2/3 innings, Painter has held a modest 4.85 ERA. However, during this stretch, he has shown elite command (2.7 BB/9) and logged at least five innings in each start.

Given his extensive injury history, seeing Painter continue to increase his workload without facing setbacks is an excellent sign and suggests he could be a valuable contributor to the Phillies in the second half of the season.

During his first 26 innings at Triple-A Lehigh Valley, he held a much higher 5.19 ERA and a 1.50 WHIP. Earlier in the campaign, Painter tossed 11 innings at Low-A and held a 12:1 K:BB with five runs.

With Aaron Nola (ankle) still on the 60-day injured list and the struggling Mick Abel sent back to the minor leagues, Painter should have a clear path to remain in the big leagues throughout the entire second half when he gets the call. He remains the top pitcher to stash heading into Week 17.

Bubba Chandler, Pittsburgh Pirates

Currently At Triple-A

Coming in at the No. 2 spot is Bubba Chandler. While Chandler appeared to be on the fast track to taking over the top pot over Paitnr after his strong finishes to the first half, the right-hander took a significant step back on Friday evening. Facing Triple-A Nashville, Chandler allowed eight hits and five runs across just 3 2/3 innings.

In this outing, the No. 2-ranked prospect in the sport on MLB.com allowed two walks and struck out four hitters.

This was a disappointing showing for Chandler as he was enjoying an impressive start to July. Through his first two outings of the month, the right-hander tossed 12 shutout innings with a 1.17 WHIP and a 13:4 K:BB. This came after a rough June, where Chandler was quite ineffective, logging 12 2/3 innings ot the tune of an 8.53 ERA and a 2.23 WHIP.

Despite his inconsistencies this season, Chandler remains a high-end prospect to stash heading into Week 17. During his first taste of Triple-A during the 2024 campaign, the right-hander logged 39 1/3 innings to the tune of a 1.83 ERA and a 1.04 WHIP.

Nolan McLean, New York Mets

Currently At Triple-A

Sitting comfortably in the third spot is New York Mets right-hander Nolan McLean. Despite Sean Manaea making his season debut, McLean should be in the mix to join the MLB roster in the coming weeks. McLean opened the season with Double-A and needed just 26 1/3 innings to prove he was ready to join the top ranks in the minors.

During this stint, the right-hander struck out 30 hitters and held a 1.37 ERA with a 1.22 WHIP.

Since moving up to Triple-A, McLean has remained impressive. Through his first 64 1/3 innings with Triple-A Syracuse, McLean has held a 3.22 ERA with a 1.20 WHIP. During this stretch, his right-handed prospect has struck out 71 hitters and allowed only 29 free passes.

Over his last two outings, McLean has hit the double-digit strikeout mark in each. Over his last four starts (22 innings), McLean has posted an elite 2.45 ERA and 1.18 WHIP with a 30:9 K:BB.

While Jonah Tong and even Brandon Sproat have flashed elite upside at times in the New York system, I would give the slight edge to McLean as the pitcher to stash in Queens. He is a strong stash option in all 12+ team leagues as we enter the back-half of the fantasy baseball season.

Logan Henderson, Milwaukee Brewers

Currently At Triple-A
10% rostered

Unlike the other names on this list, the right-hander has already made his MLB debut this season. When Henderson got the call in the first half, he looked quite impressive, tossing 21 innings ot the tune of a 1.71 ERA and a 0.95 WHIP. During this stretch, the right-hander struck out 29 hitters and showed elite command, allowing walks at a 7.4% rate.

However, the Brewers opted to send him back to Triple-A Nashville to likely preserve his innings. While this move was frustrating for the manager, with the Brewers now just one game behind the Cubs for the NL Central lead, Henderson could be in play for another look in the back half of the season.

When Henderson was optioned, the Brewers welcomed back Brandon Woodruff and promoted rookie Jacob Misiorowski, who has emerged as an NL Rookie of the Year candidate. While Henderson may have to wait for an injury to get the call, he has shown that he is more than capable of holding his own in the big leagues.

Since returning to Triple-A, Henderson has tossed 68 2/3 innings to the tune of a 3.01 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP. He has struck out an eye-catching 80 hitters while serving up just 20 walks.

Given that he may have to wait for any injury, he is a solid stash option in deeper 12+ team formats.

Hunter Barco, SP, Pittsburgh Pirates

Currently At Triple-A

The final player we will look at is another pitcher from Pittsburgh. Barco opened the season at Double-A and was one of the most dominant pitchers throughout the opening months. The left-hander opted for the season, logging 25 2/3 straight shutout innings. During this stretch, he struck out 34 hitters and allowed only seven walks.

This dominant start at Double-A earned him a call to Triple-A.

Since moving to Triple-A, Barco has remained remarkably productive, tossing 43 innings to the tune of a 3.35 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP. He has continued to post high strikeout numbers, tallying 51 while allowing only 25 free passes. Over his last 23 1/3 innings (four starts), the 24-year-old has been even more impressive, holding a stellar 1.54 ERA with an elite 0.81 WHIP.

Similar to Chandler, with the Pirates likely to move Mitch Keller, Andrew Heaney, and Bailey Falter at the deadline, Barco could be given the call in the coming weeks. While Chandler carries more upside than Barco, do not be surprised if the Pirates give Barco the call first, given his more recent success.
