Eric Cross' Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Pickups - Hitters and Pitchers (Week 15)

Evan Carter - Fantasy Baseball Prospects, Draft Sleepers, MLB Rookies Rankings

Eric Cross' top fantasy baseball waiver wire adds for Week 15 of 2025 (July 7 - July 13). His favorite free agent hitters and pitchers under 40% rostered.

The first three months of the 2025 season are in the books, and we're only a week away from the All-Star break. How are your fantasy teams doing so far? Unless your answer was, "Great, I'm in first place in every league by a mile!" you can't be ignoring the waiver wire right now. It doesn't matter if you're in first and looking to hold your lead or middle of the pack looking to gain ground, attacking the waiver wire can always help.

The players below are all under 40 percent rostered in Yahoo! leagues. Some of them might already be rostered in your leagues, but if they're available, I'd recommend considering them to see if they could be good fits for your fantasy teams.

Last week's recommendations were Otto Lopez (MIA), Kyle Stowers (MIA), Jo Adell (LAA), Caleb Durbin (MIL), Tyler Freeman (COL), Michael Soroka (WAS), Emmet Sheehan (LAD).

Trevor Story, SS, Boston Red Sox

42% Rostered on Yahoo

After a disastrous May, which caused many to cut bait in redraft leagues, Trevor Story has roared back over the last month. In his last 24 games, Story is slashing .347/.374/.611 with 17 runs, seven doubles, six home runs, 25 RBI, and five steals.

This hot stretch has raised his season slash line from .214/.261/.321 on June 6 to .252/.293/.404 today following back-to-back games with at least three hits.

Yes, Story still has a lower OBP, and yes, his streaky ways will likely always be a part of the Story experience. However, we're talking about a player on pace for 76 runs, 24 home runs, 93 RBI, and 29 steals.

Story's contact rates are a bit below average but not terrible at 80.9% in zone and 70.2% overall. He also has above-average quality of contact metrics with a 10.4% barrel rate, 90.5 mph AVG EV, and a 46.5% hard-hit rate.

Noelvi Marte, 3B, Cincinnati Reds

25% Rostered on Yahoo

Welcome back, Noelvi Marte. After missing the last two months with a left oblique strain, Marte was activated from the IL on Friday and picked up a walk and an RBI in his return to the Cincinnati lineup. Marte was hitting well before landing on the IL in early May, slashing .294/.342/.515 with three home runs and four steals in 73 plate appearances.

It was certainly a rough 2024 season for Marte, which included a lengthy suspension, but this is still a talented young bat who will play half of his games in Great American Ball Park.

In his limited time this season, Marte has already produced a batted ball with a 116.7 mph exit velocity, and he ranks highly in both bat speed (doesn't qualify for a percentage yet) and sprint speed (94th percentile). Marte has also nearly cut his strikeout rate in half this season from 31% to 16.9%.

Evan Carter, OF, Texas Rangers

18% Rostered on Yahoo

After being on the bereavement list for a few days, Evan Carter returned to the Rangers' lineup on Friday and picked up a hit and two steals. He's now on an eight-game hitting streak and has been very productive since re-entering the Texas lineup on a regular basis in early June. Over his last 21 games, Carter is slashing .338/.430/.529 with four doubles, three home runs, seven steals, and a 9/12 BB/K ratio.

It took longer than we hoped, but it finally appears that Carter is back to being the exciting young outfielder who took the baseball world by storm late in 2023. Carter is back to showcasing plus speed (89th percentile sprint speed) and an elite approach with a 10.3% walk rate, 15.4% strikeout rate, and a 21.2% chase rate.

While his quality of contact metrics is middle of the road, Carter maximizes his power with a 63.1% air rate and 17.9% Pull-Air rate.

Eury Perez, SP, Miami Marlins

35% Rostered on Yahoo

If you've followed my work over the years, you should know that I'm incredibly high on Eury Perez. I'm so high on him that I've even said recently that I believe Perez can join the top tier of pitchers for fantasy within the next year.

Yes, that means the tier currently occupied by Tarik Skubal and Paul Skenes. That's the upside we're talking about with 22-year-old Eury Perez, who is coming off his best outing since returning from injury, allowing just one hit and one walk over six shutout innings on Thursday with seven strikeouts.

Yes, Perez had a 6.19 ERA entering this outing, but who cares? This is an insanely talented young arm who has been shaking off the rust following Tommy John surgery, which caused him to miss the entire 2024 season and nearly the first half of the 2025 season.

Back in his 2023 rookie season as a 20-year-old, Perez had a stellar 3.15 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and a 20.6% K-BB rate while having three offerings with a sub-.200 BAA and a whiff rate above 45%.

There will likely continue to be some peaks and valleys as he's just five starts removed from missing a year and a half, but the upside and talent are too considerable to leave on the waiver wire.

Justin Wrobleski, SP/RP, Los Angeles Dodgers

11% Rostered on Yahoo

The Dodgers' rotation had been riddled with injuries this season, but one of the names who has stepped up and capitalized on the increased opportunity has been Justin Wrobleski. In seven appearances totaling 35.1 innings this season, Wrobleski has recorded a 4.08 ERA and 1.13 WHIP with a 6.3% walk rate and a 23.6% strikeout rate.

Those don't exactly jump off the page at you, but 12 of his 16 earned runs have come in two outings, with half of those 16 earned runs coming in his first outing of the season back in April. If you delete that first outing from Wrobleski's season, he'd have a 2.37 ERA and 0.96 WHIP in 30.1 innings. Over his last four outings, Wrobleski has posted a 1.77 ERA, 0.93 WHIP, 3.8% walk rate, and a 26.3% strikeout rate.

None of Wrobleski's six offerings has a notable whiff rate, but four of the six offerings have a BAA of .240 or less, and Wrobleski has also generated plenty of ground balls (50.5%) while only allowing a 6.9% Pull-Air rate.

He's not technically a starter right now, but Wrobleski is pitching every five to six days and averaging over five innings per outing. There's definitely some solid fantasy value to be had here.

Ronny Henriquez, RP, Miami Marlins

26% Rostered on Yahoo

The Miami Marlins haven't had a steady and reliable closer in quite some time, but maybe they found their guy recently with Ronny Henriquez. After pitching mostly in setup or low-leverage roles earlier in the season, Henriquez has picked up three saves in the last week for the Marlins, while Calvin Faucher has moved more into a setup role.

Given how each of those two arms has pitched so far this season, the swap makes sense, and Henriquez looks poised to run with the role moving forward.

In 39 appearances and 42 innings this season, Henriquez has posted a 2.79 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, 9% walk rate, and a 32.6% strikeout rate. Over his last nine innings, Henriquez has allowed only one earned run with zero walks and 13 strikeouts.

Henriquez has seen a major uptick in his strikeout rate this season, largely due to his new sweeper, which is his most-used offering (31.5% usage rate) and has a 45.3% whiff rate. He also has a 25% whiff rate on his 4-seamer, 38.7% on his slider, and 31.1% on his changeup. All four of those offerings also have a .240 BAA or lower. As long as Henriquez continues pitching well, he could lock down this closer role for the remainder of the season.

Grant Taylor, RP, Chicago White Sox

9% Rostered on Yahoo

It's not very often that I can include two exciting closer options who are under 40% rostered, but that's what you're getting this week. Grant Taylor has been one of the most exciting rookie arms over the last few weeks following his mid-June debut.

In 10 appearances since being called up, Taylor has a 4.38 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, 6.4% walk rate, and a 29.8% strikeout rate. That ERA was bloated due to allowing three earned runs in 1.1 innings to the Dodgers, but Taylor has been highly impressive so far.

Taylor's 4-seamer is his bread and butter. The pitch averaged 99.2 mph with 17 inches of induced vertical break. Taylor has yet to allow an extra-base hit on his 4-seamer while generating an impressive 37.1% whiff rate, which is the 6th-best whiff rate for pitchers with at least 100 4-seamers thrown this season.

The White Sox have no legitimate alternative for the closer role right now, so I'm expecting Taylor to hold the role down for the remainder of the season.
