ANALYSIS: Chicago Cubs infield prospect Matt Shaw was able to break camp with the MLB roster but showed some significant growing pains during his first taste of major league action. Across his first 18 contests on the Northside, Shaw posted a .172/.294/.241 slash line with one double and a triple. Following his slow start, the Cubs opted to send their top prospect back to Triple-A Iowa to put the final touches on his development.
At Triple-A, Shaw was able to find his footing, as he posted a stellar .286/.409/.560 slash line with five doubles, one triple, six home runs, and five stolen bases. During this stretch, the Maryland product held an 11:17 K:BB and tallied 14 RBI.
This strong play quickly earned him a spot back on the MLB roster.
Since returning to Chicago, Shaw has seen an everyday role at the hot corner and has not disappointed. Across eight games, Shaw has posted a .355/.412/.516 slash line with five doubles and four stolen bases.

Given his everyday role and five-category upside, he should be added in all formats and viewed as a must-start third baseman/corner infielder going forward.
