Fantasy Baseball Injury Reports - Updates for Ranger Suarez, Brenton Doyle, Kodai Senga, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Walker Buehler, Jared Jones, and more

Brenton Doyle - Fantasy Baseball Rankings, Draft Sleepers, Waiver Wire Pickups

Fantasy baseball injury updates and injury reports for MLB hitters and pitchers as of 7/29/2024, including Ranger Suarez, Brenton Doyle, Kodai Senga, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Walker Buehler, Jared Jones, and more.

The 2024 calendar is approaching August, meaning it's close to crunch time in MLB fantasy baseball leagues. With a plethora of key players dealing with ailments in the second half of the year, let's take a look at the top injured players including Ranger Suarez, Brenton Doyle, Kodai Senga, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Walker Buehler, Jared Jones, and more.

This is the next edition of this year's fantasy baseball injury updates for hitters and pitchers as of July 29, 2024. Whether or not some of these players affect your lineups depends on your league size, but with leagues of all shapes and formats, you never know who could be a key absence in the coming weeks.

Ranger Suarez Injury Update

Philadelphia Phillies left-hander Ranger Suarez is being placed on the 15-day injured list due to lower back soreness. The move is retroactive to July 24 while left-hander Kolby Allard has been recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to take Suarez's spot on the 26-man roster. The 28-year-old has been among the biggest fantasy surprises this season as he has worked to a 2.87 ERA to go along with a 10-5 record and a stellar 18.5% K-BB% across 20 starts and 119 1/3 innings of work.

For his part, Allard has yet to pitch in the big leagues the season and has endured a tough season in the minors, working to a 5.60 ERA across 19 outings (13 starts) split between Double-A and Triple-A. He owns a career 6.10 ERA in 245 innings in the big leagues.

Brenton Doyle Injury Update

Colorado Rockies outfielder Brenton Doyle (finger) left Sunday's game against the San Francisco Giants early with a finger contusion. Doyle was frustrated after striking out in the first inning and threw a towel against a training kit, but Doyle struck the training kit as well and hurt his finger. It's a bizarre injury, but seemingly not a serious one as Doyle was deemed day-to-day.

Fantasy managers will hope that the breakout stud can get back into the lineup for Tuesday's game, but they will have to check the latest news and update their lineups accordingly.

Kodai Senga Injury Update

New York Mets starting pitcher Kodai Senga (calf) was moved to the 60-day injured list on Sunday to make room for newly-acquired outfielder Jesse Winker, according to Tim Healey of Newsday. Senga made his season debut on Friday, July 26, after missing the entire first half due to shoulder and triceps injuries.

The right-hander looked quite sharp as he logged five ⅓ innings of two-run ball and tallied nine punchouts. Unfortunately, he left the game early due to a calf injury and was eventually ruled out for the remainder of the regular season on Saturday. Senga could still return in the postseason, but as of now, that seems unlikely, given the extent of his calf strain. Tylor Megill should have a strong chance to stay in the rotation for the remainder of the second half as a result.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto Injury Update

Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session on Friday.

The right-hander is working his way back from a rotator cuff issue that has sidelined him since mid-June. The assumption is that Yoshinobu is going to need a few throwing sessions before beginning a rehab assignment. If everything goes well, Yamamoto could be back in the Dodgers rotation by the end of August.

Walker Buehler Injury Update

Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Walker Buehler (hip) didn't look great in his first minor-league rehab start with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Friday night, surrendering four earned runs on eight hits while walking two and striking out three in four innings of work. On top of the unsavory line, Buehler's fastball averaged just 93.5 mph, which isn't a good sign. He made his return from Tommy John surgery this year, only to go 1-4 with a 5.84 ERA (6.04 FIP) and 1.51 WHIP with 31 strikeouts and 10 walks in 37 innings over eight starts.

The Dodgers put the 29-year-old on the 15-day injured list before the All-Star break and had him work on his mechanics away from the team. It's likely that Buehler will make a couple more starts in the minors before the Dodgers feel comfortable letting him face big-league hitters again. (MiLB.com)

Reynaldo Lopez Injury Update

The Atlanta Braves announced that starting pitcher Reynaldo Lopez left his start early as a precaution with right forearm tightness and is considered day-to-day. The right-hander left the game against the New York Mets on Sunday after three innings pitched with three hits and a walk with two strikeouts.

Lopez is 7-4 this season with a 2.12 ERA and 1.19 WHIP. The fact that the Braves are calling the move precautionary is a good sign but fantasy managers will still need to keep an eye on the follow-up news after Lopez has a chance to get examined. The Braves and fantasy managers can not afford to lose Lopez for an extended period.

Jared Jones Injury Update

Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Jared Jones (lat) threw a 30-pitch bullpen session on Saturday. Jones said he felt good after his bullpen session after throwing off a mound for the first time since July 4. The Pirates rookie right-hander's velocity sat around 93-95 mph, and he used all four pitches in his arsenal during the bullpen session.

He is set to throw again on Monday and face live hitters during next week's road trip in Houston. Jones owns a 3.56 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, and a 98:27 K: BB across 91 innings in 2024. Fantasy managers should continue to stash Jones as he is on target to return from the injured list in August.

Nick Gonzales Injury Update

Pittsburgh Pirates second baseman Nick Gonzales (groin) will be placed on the 10-day injured list after leaving Saturday's game with a groin injury. Pirates general manager Ben Cherington said on a radio show that he believes the injury is not season-ending but it could be weeks before Gonzalez returns from the injured list.

The 25-year-old is hitting .258 with five homers and 39 RBI this season in 65 games for the Pirates. It sounds like this will be a lengthy absence for Gonzales. Fantasy managers may want to look into a replacement the rest of the way this season.

Ryan Pepiot Injury Update

Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Ryan Pepiot (knee) provided an update on his knee infection on Saturday, telling the media the issue stemmed from a bug bite, likely a spider, causing his knee to swell up "like the size of a softball" while he spent 60 hours in the hospital as a result. Acquired in the trade that sent star righty Tyler Glasnow to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the offseason, Pepiot is scheduled to throw 20-25 pitches off the bullpen mound on Saturday, which could determine when he comes off the 15-day injured list.

It's unclear if he will require a start with Triple-A Durham or join the big club when first eligible to come off the IL. The 26-year-old has been solid in his first season in Tampa, working to a 3.92 ERA and a 26.7% K% across 17 starts and 87 1/3 innings of work, providing solid value to fantasy managers who took him later in drafts this spring.

Jose Miranda Injury Update

Minnesota Twins third baseman Jose Miranda (head) left Sunday's game early in the opening frame after getting hit by a pitch on the left side of his batting helmet. Evan Woodbery of the MLive Media Group reported that the 26-year-old was down on the ground for a while but was eventually able to walk off on his power. He was replaced by Austin Martin. This was a scary sight, but fortunately, Miranda was able to stand on his own and walk off the field. The infielder was recently reinstated from the injured list on Saturday after missing a few weeks due to a back injury.

Miranda has enjoyed a nice post-hype breakout season this summer as he boasts an excellent .324/.364/.517 line with nine home runs and 43 RBI. Fantasy managers should pay close attention to any updates on the third baseman after Sunday's game. UPDATE: Miranda suffered a head contusion on Sunday and passed the preliminary concussion testing.
