1B/3B Waiver Wire Pickups for Fantasy Baseball - Week 6

Brett Baty - Fantasy Baseball Rankings, MLB Prospects, Draft Sleepers, Wavier Wire Pickups

Lauren's fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups for 1B and 3B for Week 6 of the 2023 MLB season.

Week 6 of the 2023 MLB season has begun, and we've already reached the fifth edition of our first-base and third-base waiver wire pickups. In this article, you will find my first base and third base fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups for Week 6 – May 1 through May 7.

As April comes to a close and May begins, the waiver wire could help you either sustain your success or help to catch up in the standings. While plenty of time remains to make up ground in your league, it's important to keep an eye on the waiver wire for players who can give you an extra boost. With the season's first month down, the All-Star break will be here before we know it!

Without further ado, here are some names to consider as fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups for the upcoming week.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball draft tools and resources:

Waiver Wire Pickups for Shallow Leagues (40-60% rostered)

Brett Baty, 3B, New York Mets (41% rostered)

Baty, one of New York's top prospects who made his debut last season, was recalled by the Mets on April 17. He's appeared in 10 games since and has shown the Amazins that they made the right decision by adding him back to the Major League roster.

The 23-year-old is hitting .333 with a .861 OPS, a home run, a double, and three RBI. His first homer of the year came on April 27 against the Washington Nationals. The ball traveled 400 feet into the center field seats at Citi Field and had an exit velocity of 102.7 mph. It was just the third home run of his young career.

Although he's platooning with Eduardo Escobar at the hot corner, manager Buck Showalter said it is “Not strict. We’ll pick some spots there […] For both of them really, [we] want to use both their skills. Make sure that I don’t close the door on anybody.” Sounds like Showalter may opt to ride the hot hand, and at the moment, Baty is the clear choice.

Jose Miranda, 1B/3B, Minnesota Twins (57% rostered)

A cousin of Lin-Manuel Miranda, Jose Miranda continues to impress for the Twins. The soon-to-be 25-year-old has appeared in 28 games this season for Minnesota and has begun to catch fire in his last seven. He's slugged .708 alongside three dingers, four RBI, and three walks.

Although the Puerto Rican third baseman did not get off to the start he wanted, let's hope his most recent performance is sustainable as May begins. The Twins currently sit atop the AL Central and look to keep it that way with power hitters Joey Gallo and Miranda adding the pop to their lineup.

Waiver Wire Pickups for Deeper Leagues (20-40% rostered)

Isaac Paredes, 1B/2B/3B, Tampa Bay Rays (30% rostered)

Since their incredible 13-0 start to the 2023 season, the Rays have since improved to 23-5 and have a comfortable 4.5-game lead in the AL East. On Saturday, Tampa was being no-hit through six innings by the White Sox ace Lance Lynn. However, the club came back in a big way in the seventh, scoring 10 runs, and eventually winning the game, 12-3.

Paredes was a large part of the win, with a single, double, a RBI, and a run scored. The 24-year-old has slashed .375/.444/.667 with a home run, eight RBI, and two walks in his last seven games. Overall, the Mexican infielder is hitting .261 alongside a .785 OPS with four homers and 19 RBI across 97 plate appearances.

Josh Naylor, 1B/OF, Cleveland Guardians (33% rostered)

The 5-foot-11, 250-pound first baseman Naylor has started to hit his stride following a slow start to the 2023 campaign. In his last seven games, the 25-year-old has strung together a .360/.370/.560 slash with two steals, a home run, and six RBI, including a bases-clearing double on Saturday vs. the Boston Red Sox.

Overall, Naylor is batting .214 with three homers and 15 RBI across 95 PA. His Guardians are one game below .500 at 13-14 and are 2.5 games back of the Minnesota Twins in the AL Central. Hopefully, as Naylz begins to heat up, he can help Cleveland gain some ground in the division.
