Outfield Waiver Wire Pickups For Fantasy Baseball - Week 4

Josh Busky's fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups for outfielders and Week 4 of the 2023 MLB season. Consider adding and streaming these free-agent hitters.

This article will discuss fantasy baseball waiver wire pickups for the outfield in Week 4 – April 17 through April 24. Whether your team is injury-riddled or you’re ready to give up on your draft day darlings, we’ve got you covered.

As we move through the season, our data is ever-changing and we have to learn to react in real-time. When it comes to hot streaks, you have the act fast or you may miss out. This set of outfield-eligible players may not have the longest track record or could be looked at as unsustainable. However, you have to take risks early in the season in order to find your breakout stars for the remainder of the season.

Names listed are in order of roster percentage, not confidence ranking. Position eligibility and roster percentage are based on Yahoo so be sure to check your leagues for availability!

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball lineup tools and resources:

Austin Hays, Baltimore Orioles

48% Rostered

Austin Hays is off to a great start, batting in the middle of a surprisingly potent lineup in Baltimore. He’s hit .333 with 2 home runs and 4 RBI over the past week. He’s done a great job of elevating the ball and hitting it extremely hard. His barrel % ranks in the 93rd percentile, per Statcast.

The Orioles have made it difficult on their right-handed hitters by extending their left field wall to almost 400 feet. Hays and Ryan Mountcastle have still found success in the early going by continuing to pull the ball over the new fence. The 27-year-old outfielder’s batting average will most likely regress to around his career average of .260. However, his early home run pace could carry on if he continues to elevate the ball and maintain his increased exit velocity this season.

Jon Berti, Miami Marlins

45% Rostered

The 2022 stolen base leader is back running wild on the base paths while filling in at shortstop for Joey Wendle. Over the past week, Berti is hitting .238 with 3 stolen bases. His 95th percentile sprint speed shows he’s fully capable of reaching the 40 stolen base mark again if given the playing time.

Berti is eligible at 2B, 3B, SS, and OF which is a plus for lineup flexibility. Berti is more valuable in category leagues but fantasy managers may find value in using him in other formats if able to absorb his low power output.

Franchy Cordero, New York Yankees

34% Rostered

Franchy Cordero looks like the answer in the Yankees' quest to find left-handed power threats to take advantage of their short porch in right field. As seen by Matt Carpenter's success last year, the Yankees have a knack for this. With four home runs over the past week for the slugger, Cordero looks to be settling in just fine in New York.

All four of his home runs have come on the road so there should be plenty more to come if the Yankees can ignore his heightened strikeout rate. As stated, these types of hitters are unproven, but you have to take the chance while they’re going well and hope it continues. Cordero will look to smash his career high in home runs of eight this year if given the playing time. Check to see if you can fit him into your corner infield slot as he’s eligible at 1B, OF on Yahoo.

Brandon Marsh, Philadelphia Phillies

31% Rostered

Brandon Marsh finds himself in a platoon split with recently acquired Cristian Pache, with Marsh sitting against left-handed pitching. Marsh is off to a fantastic start in his first full year in Philadelphia, hitting .438 with a home run, six RBI, and a stolen base over the past week.

The former Angel has shown plate discipline improvements so far, dropping his brutal 34.3 % strikeout rate from 2022 to 20% in the early going. If Marsh can remain patient at the plate, he can be a solid source of batting average and speed in deeper leagues.

Chas McCormick, Houston Astros

31% Rostered

Chas McCormick has led off five straight games and has settled in nicely for the defending champions. McCormick has found ways to get on base and pick his spots to run at the top of a loaded lineup. He has four total stolen bases on the year and looks to be the Astros' most trusted center fielder at the moment.

McCormick has hit 14 home runs in back-to-back seasons and the new rules seem to have motivated him to run more as his next steal will set a new career high. Until Jose Altuve returns in June, McCormick seems like a safe bet to lead off for one of the best lineups in baseball.
