Adam Koffler's PPR WR Fantasy Football Rankings and 2022 Players to Target, Avoid

michael pittman jr. fantasy football rankings NFL DFS lineup picks

Welcome RotoBallers to another edition of our fantasy football rankings! Below you will find Adam Koffler's 2022 PPR Wide Receiver Rankings, updated as of 8/20/2022.

In this article, I'll also highlight a handful of wide receivers that I'm targeting and avoiding at cost this season. Remember, these are full-PPR rankings, thus bumping up high-volume pass-catchers.

Below you'll find my tiered rankings for the wide receiver position. Check out my other positional rankings: QBs, RBs, TEs.

Editor's Note: Our incredible team of writers won two writing awards and received 12 award nominations by the Fantasy Sports Writers Association. A big congrats to our very own Byron Lindeque (Golf) and Jordan McAbee (NASCAR) for both winning Writer Of The Year awards! Be sure to follow RotoBaller's analysis and advice all year long, and win more. Win More With RotoBaller!

Wide Receivers I'm Targeting for Fantasy Football

Michael Pittman Jr., IND (WR6) - I'm ALL THE WAY IN on MPJ in 2022. The Colts brought in Matt Ryan to be more balanced on offense after attempting just 30.6 passes per game in 2021. Despite that, Pittman still finished as a top-20 receiver with an 88-1082-6 line on 129 targets. Per PlayerProfiler, he had a 25.7% target share (14th-best) while having just the 58th-best target quality rating. Kyle Pitts, who played out wide with Ryan last season, had the fourth-highest target quality rating of all tight ends.

If Pittman sustains (or improves upon) his target share, he's in line for a top-10 fantasy finish. And all training camp, all we have heard out of Indianapolis is how dominant Pittman Jr. looks.

Amon-Ra St. Brown, DET (WR23) - I'm in the camp that believes ARSB is a stud and the last six games of the 2021 season weren't a fluke. I realize D'Andre Swift was hobbled and T.J. Hockenson didn't play, but neither guy is some elite target hog. Hockenson gobbled up 101 targets in 2020 on a Detroit team void of any legitimate pass-catchers. Hockenson's career-high target share is just 21%.

If anything, St. Brown will be the guy close to 25% while a guy like Hockenson takes a bit of a backseat. St. Brown will be especially great in PPR formats, given he averaged 8.5 receptions on 11.2 targets per game between Weeks 12 and 18 his rookie season.

Don't let D.J. Chark or Jameson Williams detract you from grabbing as many shares of ARSB as possible. He could be Jared Goff's new Cooper Kupp (Kupp averaged 8.5 targets per game in 2019 and 2020 with Goff as his quarterback), the primary slot receiver.

Others I'm Targeting: Courtland Sutton, JuJu Smith-Schuster, Joshua Palmer, Zay Jones

Wide Receivers I'm Avoiding for Fantasy Football

Terry McLaurin, WAS (WR26) - I just don't see the upside with McLaurin with Carson Wentz as his new quarterback. While I believe he's a very talented receiver, there's never been as much competition for targets as there seemingly will be this season with a healthy Curtis Samuel and rookie Jahan Dotson. Dotson particularly has drawn rave reviews in camp.

McLaurin has never finished inside the top-18 receivers in his three-year career, and I'm not sure he gets there with Wentz in 2022. In fact, I believe (based on my ranking) there's a better chance he finishes as a WR3 than a WR2 this season.

DK Metcalf, SEA (WR31) - Love the talent, hate the quarterback situation and the offense. The Seahawks will likely start the season with either Geno Smith or Drew Lock as their starting quarterback. One of them will be tasked with playing behind one of the worst offensive lines in football, not exactly a recipe for success.

In four games played with Smith last season, Metcalf averaged just 5.8 targets per game. People will point to the fact that he scored five touchdowns in those four games, but let's remember touchdowns aren't sticky from year-to-year and the Seahawks might score only 1-2 offensive touchdowns per game in 2022. Metcalf finished as a middling WR2 last season in PPR formats, and this season, I think we see him drop down into WR3 territory.

Others I'm Avoiding: Chase Claypool, DeAndre Hopkins, Kenny Golladay
