2021 NFL Mock Draft for 7 Rounds - Version 18

We are just days away from the 2021 NFL Draft, so let's take one more look at the latest mock draft based on recent movement in the NFL free-agent market and prospect evaluations.

I am updating the mock draft very frequently as I have in years past. There are 50-60 factors I look at in determining updates. Everything from free agent signings, team releases, new coaching staffs, player workouts, all the way down to the agents representing players are considered.

Follow the latest NFL Draft news and rookie breakdowns all offseason long at our NFL homepage.

Editor's Note: Our incredible team of writers won two writing awards and received 12 award nominations by the Fantasy Sports Writers Association. A big congrats to our very own Byron Lindeque (Golf) and Jordan McAbee (NASCAR) for both winning Writer Of The Year awards! Round 1 - NFL Mock Draft

This first published on April 20th, 2021. Stay tuned for updates and more NFL Draft coverage.

1. Jacksonville - Trevor Lawrence (QB, Clemson)
With the heightened quarterback activity, Lawrence going #1 is still a sure bet.

Lawrence has been rock solid and handled everything that has been thrown his way. There should be very little suspense here as the talk will center around new coach Urban Meyer and his ability as a "quarterback whisperer".

2. NY Jets - Zach Wilson (QB, BYU)
Looks like the Sam Darnold deal has put this pick into perspective. The Jets are looking for a signal caller once again. Wilson has cemented himself as the the next quarterback on the board after Trevor Lawrence and the Jets pull the trigger.

3. San Francisco - Mac Jones (QB, Alabama)
San Francisco is #3 overall and Zach Wilson is seemingly out of the running at the spot. This looked like a Justin Fields slam dunk for the longest time but now it is seemingly clear that Mac Jones is the quarterback San Francisco is pushing in all of their chips for. With all the talent at Alabama, who would have thought at the beginning of this season that Mac Jones is most likely to be the first Crimson Tide player off the board.

4. Atlanta - Kyle Pitts (TE, Florida)
The Atlanta Falcons are now THE team to watch in the top five and they control the flow of the draft. With quarterbacks now seemingly being slotted for the top three picks, this looks to be the spot where we see the first player outside of quarterback selected. It would be monumental if the Falcons drafted a quarterback as four quarterbacks to start a draft has never happened before. Kyle Pitts is the popular pick and where I am going here. My instincts tell me Atlanta will be looking to fall back in the draft. Make a deal and maybe select a quarterback like Trey Lance a little later or even grab Kyle Trask before anyone gets their hands on him in the second round.

5. Cincinnati - Penei Sewell (OT, Oregon)
Want justification for this pick? Look no further than November 22, 2020. Joe Burrow in the midst of a record-setting rookie campaign and has his knee shredded with a full ACL and MCL tear while suffering a partial PCL tear. Burrow should make his way back onto the football field this season and when he does, give him the best tackle available. Cincinnati has holes all over the roster and both lines are where most of these holes are evident.

6. Miami - Ja'Marr Chase (WR, LSU)
Miami gets to acquire more draft capital while only moving down three positions. While the Dolphins do indeed move down, they can still acquire the position they are truly targeting - wide receiver. Chase was the top receiver in this class when the season began and he sat out due to the pandemic. The Heisman campaign of DeVonta Smith may have some Dolphin fans wanting him but Chase is still the player most teams covet at the position. Both are extremely productive but the smaller frame of Smith is worrisome to more than one franchise.

7. Detroit - DeVonta Smith (WR, Alabama)
Detroit was a hard team to read when the offseason began but the tea leaves have come into focus. Jared Goff is the new quarterback and Kenny Golladay and Marvin Jones are both gone. Breshad Perriman and Tyrell Williams are technically the starters right now which is an alarming downgrade. We have been mocking a wide receiver for some time here and going back and forth between Waddle and Smith. Justin Fields here is tempting if he is still available but in the end Detroit wants to win now and they need players that can catch the football.

8. Carolina - Rashawn Slater (OT, Northwestern)
We were not surprised that the Panthers made a move for a quarterback as we have chronicled the team's desire to move on from Teddy Bridgewater. We were not surprised that Sam Darnold will be getting another chance for a new organization. We were surprised that this is where the two factors would intersect. This new development means Carolina can go after a franchise player along the offensive line to serve as the anchor. Micah Parsons is the other possibility but after a draft where there Panthers went entirely on defense, it will be time to even the score.

9. Denver - Justin Fields (QB, Ohio State)
The Broncos would be absolutely out of their minds if Justin Fields is available and they don't make this selection. The Broncos would have to move up to make this pick and I feel they might be the team to convince the Falcons to move back. Micah Parsons would make the most sense if Fields is gone but we had to go Fields here as he would still be on the board and we are not mocking trades.

10. Dallas - Patrick Surtain II (CB, Alabama)
Roll Tide becomes the rallying call as Surtain goes at #10, meaning two Crimson Tide players are selected in the top-10. The injury news concerning Caleb Farley is what lands Surtain here although we are convinced Surtain is the better player at this point in his career. Surtain is a sure tackler and a better all-around player without the enormous ceiling players like Farley or even South Carolina product Jaycee Horn.

11. New York Giants - Jaylen Waddle (WR, Alabama)
Kenny Golladay was a great get for the Giants but it does not necessarily preclude the team from looking away from wide receivers in Round 1. In this scenario, Jaylen Waddle is still available and it is too good for the Giants to pass up.

12. Philadelphia - Jaycee Horn (CB, South Carolina)
The trade back to #12 left many fans in Philadelphia wanting blood or the head of GM Howie Roseman. Our question is why? Philadelphia acquired the Dolphins' first-round pick for next season. The Eagles also have the Colts' second-round pick for 2022 that escalates into a first-rounder if Carson Wentz plays 75% of the snaps in Indianapolis. The Eagles now are staring at a real possibility of having three first-round selections for 2022. This also seems to be a vote of confidence or Jalen Hurts moving forward. Cornerback is a huge hole and Eagle fans needs to realize having someone to defend wide receivers is as important as having them. The Eagles have neglected corners at the top of their board over the years and it shows.

13. LA Chargers - Kwity Paye (DE, Michigan)
We have to see if the teams announcement of Trey Pipkens being the guy at left tackle fits or not. The Chargers could easily take a lineman like West Coaster Alijah Vera-Tucker with this pick but here they go with Paye over Gregory Rousseau as the first edge rusher selected.

14. Minnesota - Trey Lance (QB, North Dakota State)
The Vikings have pressing needs that supersede quarterback, especially along the defensive line. The Vikings have 11 selections in this draft, so going heavily along the defensive front in later rounds would be the way to go with Trey Lance still on the board. We have mentioned the enormous cap number that Kirk Cousins has on this team and training a replacement would supply huge relief for the Vikings. Lance could essentially grab a clipboard for the year and soak it all in.

15. New England - Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah (LB, Notre Dame)
The Patriots will have to make a move up the board to secure the services of Lance or any quarterback that might be available outside the top ten. Again, here we have no trades so the Patriots go with the biggest playmaker on defense on the board so JOK is the pick. Some may see this pick and ask why not Micah Parsons here. It seems this is a team that seems put off by the apparent off-the-field actions of Parsons as a few teams seem like they will not consider him.

16. Arizona - Christian Darrisaw (OT, Virginia Tech)
Arizona could be one of the most aggressive teams when trying to move up during the first round. If the Cardinals are unsuccessful in landing another explosive offensive weapon for Kyler Murray then you can expect they try to offer him some protection for the future.

17. Las Vegas - Micah Parsons (LB, Penn State)
The Raiders cut a host of quality offensive linemen and a number should still be on the board when the time comes for their first selection. What the Raiders didn't count on here is that Micah Parsons would still be on the board and the Raiders are going for a player who could let his play show him as a future leader.

18. Miami - Gregory Rousseau (DE, Miami)
The Dolphins need to put pressure on the quarterback and the top two edge-rushing prospects are from the University of Miami, which seems like a natural match. Gregory Rosseau falls to Miami here as only Paye is off the board along the edge. Travis Etienne and Najee Harris could be thought here as Miami wants to balance the offense.

19. Washington - Alijah Vera-Tucker (OG, USC)
The WFT have built their defensive line into one of the most dominating units in the NFL. It's time for Washington to show the same care to the offensive line. Alex Leatherwood or Vera-Tucker make the most sense at this point as both offer versatility up front. Despite the offensive line being the largest need, there are no safeties off the board at this point and Trevon Mohring would be a great fit so he will be in consideration.

20. Chicago - Caleb Farley (CB, Virginia Tech)
This is a bit of a gamble with the injury questions surrounding Farley, but at some point, a team is going to take him in Round 1. Chicago would be a great spot as the Bears continue to try and improve the secondary and make it Aaron Rodgers-proof.

21. Indianapolis - Alex Leatherwood (OT, Alabama)
The biggest need for the Colts is improving the line and the question becomes which one. The offensive line has improved but increasing depth is a concern as is getting more playmakers along the edge. Alex Le2atherwood gets the nod here with his versatility after playing multiple positions for a Championship SEC program.

22. Tennessee - Azeez Ojulari (DE, Georgia)
The Titans paid dearly down the stretch when they couldn't get pressure on the quarterback. The signing of Jadeveon Clowney was a colossal bust and he was moved after only a year in Tennessee. Ojulari is a young talent who has plenty of upside. We could see a player like Alex Leatherwood picked here after last year's first-rounder, Isaiah Wilson, was dealt to Miami.

23. NY Jets - Travis Etienne (RB, Clemson)
When your team finishes 31st in total offense, grabbing a new quarterback and a running back in the first round seems like an important investment and upgrade. Le’Veon Bell in New York was a nightmare and who is the starter right now after the Bell departure? Travis Etienne has been gone for most of the mocks done at this point and we have mocked Najee Harris to the Jets. We are giving the Jets Etienne due to his added receiving ability.

24. Pittsburgh - Jalen Mayfield (OT, Michigan)
The Steelers have a few holes to fill and as usual, free agency has not been kind. The running game was off a season ago but with Benny Snell and Anthony McFarland, they have younger players they have drafted in recent years. It all comes down to protecting Ben Roethlisberger in the twilight of his career. After losing three starters along the line the Steelers need to retool quickly.

25. Jacksonville - Rashod Bateman (WR, Minnesota) Jacksonville can look in a number of directions here as we have it narrowed down to wide receiver, offensive tackle, and cornerback. We have Rashod Bateman here due to the fact that he had such an impressive Pro Day and he is moving up the boards. Rondale Moore would also be a fit as Jacksonville could use a slot receiver but we are going with the best overall prospect at wideout.

26. Cleveland - Nick Bolton (LB, Missouri)
The Browns are close to being a team that contends for a title. Yes, I realized that sentence just came out of my mouth. Bolton is a player the Browns can plug in from day one and he makes a difference. Linebackers and edge rushers looked to be the primary concern coming into the draft. Cleveland could also go for an elite prospect along the offensive line, an area where they already excel.

27. Baltimore - Jayson Oweh (DE, Penn State)
Many think of Lamar Jackson and the running game when you talk about the Ravens. One thing that has been the constant is a tenacious defense predicated around getting after the quarterback. After the loss of Matthew Judon, the Ravens add back to the edge-rushing puzzle. Oweh is a player moving up the boards after a phenomenal Pro Day as his draft status is based more upon potential than output.

28. New Orleans - Kadarius Toney WR Florida
The Saints have been looking for a consistent threat to pair with Michael Thomas for some time and here Kadarius Toney is the big playmaker they were hoping for. This is essentially a 50-50 between Toney and Terrace Marshall with Toney getting the slight edge.

29. Green Bay - Christian Barmore (DT, Alabama)
We have been mocking Rondale Moore here to give the Packers a threat at the slot receiver spot. With Christian Barmore still available, it gives the Packers someone with experience playing in a 3-4 front. Barmore can line up inside or play along the edge. The versatility offered by Barmore gives him the edge over Moore while the secondary and linebacker spots will be addressed later.

30. Buffalo - Najee Harris (RB, Alabama)
The Bills know they need more balance with the offense if they want to get to the next level. Devin Singletary and Zack Moss will be trusted to tote the ball but the Bills shock a few people and take the sure thing at running back to add some more punch.

31. Baltimore - Teven Jenkins OT Oklahoma State
The Ravens have an extra first round selection after dealing Orlando Brown to Kansas City. The Ravens selected their pass rusher with Oweh and now have the chance to take a right tackle to pair with Ronnie Stanley. Jenkins has been flying up the boards and plays with a nasty streak, something they had with Orlando Brown.

32. Tampa Bay - Daviyon Nixon (DT, Iowa)
Daviyon Nixon will bring that Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year swagger to the Buccaneers. Nixon is an unpolished gem at defensive tackle and he is just starting to come into his own. Nixon posted 13.5 tackles for loss, adding 5.5 sacks as one of the most disruptive defensive forces in the Big Ten. Nixon is still raw but a system like Tampa Bay would welcome his talents. I would expect the pick to be at linebacker or an edge rusher if the interior isn’t addressed in the first round.
