Mike Fanelli breaks down the latest info surrounding Brandon Aiyuk following his trade request from the San Francisco 49ers and determines if the star WR will get traded in 2024.
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk was the 25th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. The star receiver is coming off the best year of his career, totaling 75 receptions on 105 targets for 1,342 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in 16 games. He set a career-best in receiving yards last season.
Many of the first-round wide receivers drafted in 2020 have signed long-term contracts, including Jerry Jeudy, despite never having more than 975 receiving yards or six touchdowns in a year. However, Aiyuk hasn’t signed an extension with San Francisco.
The two sides have had discussions all offseason but remain far apart on a new deal. Many have speculated that Aiyuk won’t be a member of the 49ers for much longer.

While the two sides remained apart on a long-term deal, Aiyuk didn’t request a trade. However, that has now changed with the former Arizona State star formally requesting a trade from the 49ers. Reportedly, he wants to be paid like a top wide receiver, but the team hasn’t made him an offer anywhere near the top guys at his position.

Which Teams Could Trade For Brandon Aiyuk?
Several teams would love to get their hands on Aiyuk. However, the veteran wide receiver has been heavily linked to two teams this offseason -- the New England Patriots and Washington Commanders. Reportedly, the Patriots have reached out to the 49ers over the past few weeks about trading for the star receiver but were rejected.

Meanwhile, Aiyuk would love to play for the Commanders. His former Arizona State quarterback is Jayden Daniels. The two remain close friends to this day. Washington also has the salary-cap space needed to pay Aiyuk the massive contract he wants.
However, fantasy players shouldn’t expect Aiyuk to go anywhere. The 49ers have a history of players requesting a trade during contract talks only to end up signing a long-term deal to remain in San Francisco.
