When is Jordan Lawlar getting called up? Will Lawlar get promoted in May 2025? Read about this top fantasy baseball prospect outlook heading into Week 6.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have one of the game's future stars raking in the minors right now while the big league club has lost eight of its last 12 games, risking further falling behind the mighty Dodgers and the Padres, winners of six straight.

Although the season is young, the D-backs are also 1.5 games out of a Wild Card spot right now as well, with teams like the 16-18 Braves only expected to get healthier and stronger soon with the arrival of Spencer Strider and Ronald Acuna Jr.

So, when does the team plan on bringing Jordan Lawlar up? If it doesn't want to dig too big a hole to climb out of, then it had better be soon; but will it be May? June? Later? Let's attempt to figure that out.

Jordan Lawlar Prospect Update for Fantasy Baseball

An 0-for-9 weekend doused some cold water on the white-hot stretch Lawlar had been on at Triple-A Reno. The Diamondbacks' top prospect had collected 12 multi-hit games in his last 16, going 32-for-65 (.492) as he headed into the weekend.

Even after going hitless on Saturday and Sunday, the 22-year-old is still hitting .357 on the year, including 14 doubles, two triples, and six home runs, which has allowed him to collect 30 RBI and record 35 runs scored.

Factor in the 12 bags he's swiped, and we have a potential five-category fantasy producer on our hands. It all adds up to a .469 wOBA and a 167 wRC+. That's all well and good, but spitting out all these stats doesn't help us unless he's doing it in the majors. So, when will that happen?

Jordan Lawlar Outlook for Fantasy Baseball

The aforementioned stats, while great, are nothing new for the former sixth overall draft pick. He owns a career .301/.398/.519 slash line in the minors, with two seasons of at least 36 steals to his name. 

Don't forget that he's already debuted in the majors also, recording 31 at-bats back in 2023 and even getting some postseason experience on Arizona's run to the World Series.

Some may try to throw cold water on his potential because he went just 4-for-31 (.129) during that late-season cameo, but remember that he was a green 20-year-old at the time, getting reps in the majors long before others his age.

The bugaboo has been healthiness, with multiple injuries limiting him to 12 games at Triple-A in 2024 (12 games in which he hit .367!). So far in 2025, the right-handed hitter has been healthy, and if that can remain the case for the rest of the season, then fantasy managers have plenty to be excited about.

So, we've established Lawlar is ready for another shot in the majors; however, the problem may be a path to playing time. Sure, Tim Tawa is probably an expendable bench spot, but when the team brings up Lawlar, it should be for good, and it won't want him collecting dust on the bench.

With that in mind, the team has had him play 16 games at second base, eight at shortstop, and six at third base, opening up multiple paths to at-bats. MLB's No. 8 prospect could provide any of Ketel Marte, Eugenio Suarez, or Geraldo Perdomo a day off, while also being an option at designated hitter.

All signs point to an imminent call-up for the talented prospect; however, if we don't see him within the next two weeks, we may not see him until sometime in mid-to-late June. That is because of the Super Two rule that relates to MLB service time, which would prevent him from becoming arbitration-eligible earlier than he otherwise would.

Needless to say, it is a situation to monitor, but managers who can spare the bench spot to stash him -- or better yet, have an NA spot to use -- should consider stashing the Texas native ahead of the waiver wire rush whenever he is inevitably summoned to The Show.

Right now, he offers only SS eligibility, but could quickly become multi-position eligible and is currently only rostered in about 30 percent of Yahoo! leagues.
