Zack Gelof Expected to Begin Rehab Assignment Soon
Zack Gelof (ribs) is expected to begin a rehab assignment this week, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. He's already had to fight through multiple injuries in 2025, as the stress fracture in his ribs occurred while on a rehab stint to recover from hamate bone surgery that he underwent in March. The 25-year-old will fit in nicely with a young Athletics lineup that is taking a huge step forward this year. The youngster is coming off of a 2024 season where he hit 17 home runs and stole 25 bases, and his power could play up even more in Sutter Health Park. However, it also wouldn't be surprising if he struggled out of the gate, as the recovery from hamate bone surgery has a reputation for sapping power from hitters. Only time will tell but expect to see Gelof activated by the end of the month.
