Rakuten Eagles left-hander Yuki Matsui will exercise his international free-agent rights and pursue a major-league contract this winter. The 27-year-old southpaw became the youngest player in Nippon Professional Baseball history to reach 200 saves in 2023, and he has a pristine 1.42 ERA over the last three seasons with a 36.4 percent strikeout rate. Matsui has a four-pitch arsenal that features a four-seam fastball that reaches 96 mph, a dominant splitter and slider and a lesser-used curveball. He will certainly draw some interest on the free-agent market from MLB clubs seeking to upgrade their bullpens this offseason.--Keith Hernandez
