The Athletic's Nate Taylor points out that Kansas City Chiefs offensive guard Trey Smith is the only player in the NFL that is currently on the franchise tag. Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Chiefs have until 4 pm ET on Tuesday to sign Smith to a multi-year contract extension. If a new deal isn't completed by the deadline on Tuesday, Smith will earn $23.4 million on the franchise tag in 2025, which makes him the highest-paid guard in the league. The 26-year-old is a key member of the Chiefs' offensive line, as he's started 67 of a possible 68 regular-season games and all 13 of the team's playoff games since he was taken in the sixth round by KC in 2021. He is one of the NFL's best right guards, so it would be a mild surprise if they are unable to reach an extension with him before Tuesday evening.--Keith Hernandez
