Shaquil Barrett Looking To Break The Bank
4 years agoTampa Bay Buccaneers impending free-agent pass-rusher Shaquil Barrett, who played the 2020 season under the franchise tag, feels that he's earned a big contract this offseason after helping the team win Super Bowl LV. "I'm most definitely looking forward to getting a long-term deal done..." Barrett said. "I feel like it's time for me to break the bank now, and I most definitely want to do that to be able to set my family up better and most definitely going to keep producing, so it's not like anything is going to fall off." Barrett was a rotational player in Denver for five years before putting up a league-high 19.5 sacks in 2019. The 28-year-old had eight more sacks in 2020 and added four in the playoffs. A second franchise tag in 2021 would cost Tampa around $19 million. Paired with Jason Pierre-Paul, Barrett helped Tampa's defense become fantasy relevant the last two seasons.
