The New Orleans Saints promoted Ryan Nielsen to co-defensive coordinator/defensive line coach and Kris Richard to co-defensive coordinator/secondary coach on Tuesday. Special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi also added assistant head coach duties on head coach Dennis Allen's staff. Allen hinted that he will continue to call defensive plays for the Saints, but he has yet to make it official. Richard served as the passing-game coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys from 2018-19. Nielsen has been with the Saints since 2017. The New Orleans D ranked fourth in the league in points allowed last season and seventh in yards allowed.
