Green Bay Packers running back Emanuel Wilson was a distant third in the running back pecking order as Green Bay squeezed by the Indianapolis Colts 23-19 in the Packers' second preseason contest. Wilson got his first touch early in the second quarter when MarShawn Lloyd and Chris Brooks were done for the day, and received his final snaps at the end of the first half. Totaling 65 total yards on five carries and one catch on two targets, Wilson led the Packers' skill-position players in total yards. Despite that, it seems like Wilson might be the odd man out in the running back room after the second preseason game. With Wilson seemingly fourth among running backs in Green Bay, he shouldn't be drafted in any fantasy leagues going forward.--Kevin Tompkins

Green Bay Packers running back Chris Brooks looked to continue carving out a role in the Packers' backfield and stated his case in the team's 23-19 win over the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday afternoon. Mixing in with MarShawn Lloyd, Brooks saw the second-most snaps with the Packers' starters, per Pro Football Focus' Nathan Jahnke. Seeing mostly late-down work, particularly on third down, Brooks may have an opening to see a little bit of work behind Josh Jacobs and Lloyd as the third running back, ahead of Emanuel Wilson. From Week 6 through the end of last season, Brooks averaged 15 snaps a game for the Packers in 2024 as the third back in a rotation with Jacobs and Wilson. Brooks looks to be in line for that same role this season, but unfortunately, it's not a fantasy-friendly role, even with an injury ahead of him. Keep him undrafted or on waivers to begin the season.--Kevin Tompkins

Green Bay Packers running back MarShawn Lloyd was well-involved with the starting unit in the Packers' 23-19 victory over the Indianapolis Colts in Green Bay's second preseason tune-up. Josh Jacobs' status as the Packers' top rusher is not in question at all, but behind him, there are questions with multiple backs vying for the remaining time and workload behind Jacobs. Lloyd has been out in front of players like Emanuel Wilson and Chris Brooks for most of training camp, and on Saturday, Lloyd saw six carries for 15 yards, plus a 33-yard reception from quarterback Malik Willis. As it stands now, Lloyd would be the player to draft as a contingency play if something were to happen to Jacobs during the regular season. He's worth drafting in the deepest leagues as a bench stash, but Lloyd is a name to keep in the back of your mind when looking for handcuffs for some of the top-end backs in fantasy.--Kevin Tompkins

Green Bay Packers running back MarShawn Lloyd (groin) is expected to make his preseason debut Sunday against the Colts. The 2024 rookie appeared in just one game before suffering an ankle injury and later required an emergency appendectomy that ended his season. Lloyd enters 2025 healthy and projects as the primary change-of-pace option behind starter Josh Jacobs. For fantasy purposes, Lloyd is an intriguing handcuff with upside, particularly in deeper formats. If Jacobs were to miss time, Lloyd's explosiveness and versatility could give him immediate flex appeal.--Shaun Albin

Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs will not play in Saturday's second preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts, according to Packers beat writer Mike Spofford. Jacobs will take a seat after playing just one offensive snap in the preseason opener last week against the New York Jets. Most of the team's key starters won't feature this weekend, including quarterback Jordan Love (thumb) and receivers Jayden Reed (knee), Dontayvion Wicks (calf) and Romeo Doubs (back). In his first year in Green Bay in 2024, Jacobs topped 1,000 rushing yards for the fourth time in his six NFL seasons and scored a career-high 15 rushing touchdowns on 301 carries. Jacobs should again be the workhorse in the Packers' backfield this year, but fantasy managers should expect TD regression, making him more of a low-end RB1 target in fantasy.--Keith Hernandez

With Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love (thumb) sidelined temporarily after having surgery on his left (non-throwing) thumb, Malik Willis will step into the starting role for the second preseason game on Saturday against the Indianapolis Colts. The former third-rounder by the Tennessee Titans in 2022 joined the Packers at the end of training camp last year and made two starts for the team when Love was injured, leading them to wins over the Colts in Week 2 and the Titans in Week 3. Willis has become more confident this year after having a full offseason to work with the offense and had a solid week during training camp practices as the QB1 with Love out of action. However, the first-team offense struggled on Thursday in a joint practice with the Colts. The 26-year-old will be off the fantasy radar in 2025 unless Love misses more games due to injury.--Keith Hernandez

The Athletic's Matt Schneidman reports that Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love (thumb) is wearing a soft cast after having surgery to address a ligament injury in his left (non-throwing) thumb. Love is still expected to return to practice next week. Even if he were fully healthy, Love was not expected to play in the second preseason game this Saturday against the Indianapolis Colts. The 26-year-old will get back to practice next week and is fully expected to be ready for Week 1 of the 2025 regular season. Love missed two games due to injury in his second full season as the starter in 2024 and finished with 3,389 passing yards, 25 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, a slight step back from the previous campaign. The Packers' offense needs to stay healthy, but if Love ends up running more, a bounce-back season could be in store. Draft him as a low-end QB2 with upside this fall.--Keith Hernandez

Green Bay Packers wide receivers Romeo Doubs (back) and Dontayvion Wicks (calf) did not practice on Thursday due to back and calf injuries, respectively. Head coach Matt LaFleur said Doubs suffered a back injury in Tuesday's practice, but the ailment is not viewed as serious. Wicks has been out of action for a few weeks. Fellow Green Bay wideouts Savion Williams (concussion), Jayden Reed (foot), and Christian Watson (knee) are also banged up, leaving rookie Matthew Golden to soak up a ton of opportunities in training camp. Golden likely has the highest upside among all Packers' pass-catchers, but 2025 could be another year of the Packers lacking a true No. 1 target hog.--Jackson Sparks - RotoBaller

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jayden Reed (foot) was seen out of his walking boot on Thursday, but the third-year wideout is still not participating in practice. Reed is dealing with a sprained foot, and it's unclear if it will affect his Week 1 availability. The Packers' wide receiver room is dealing with several injuries during training camp, as Romeo Doubs, Savion Williams, Dontayvion Wicks, and Christian Watson are all out of action. First-round rookie Matthew Golden stands to benefit from extra opportunities in their absences. Reed remains a viable flex option for fantasy football, but it appears he is trending toward being relegated to three-WR sets once again in 2025.--Jackson Sparks - RotoBaller

Zach Kruse of The Packers Wire writes that he hasn't heard the entirety of the Green Bay Packers organization "talk about a rookie like they have with wide receiver Matthew Golden in a long time." Kruse says that everytime someone is asked about Golden, it's some variation of, "Yeah, he's good, and he's only scratching the surface of his potential." It's looking more and more like the 22-year-old from Texas will be a key contributor through the air for the Packers offense right away in 2025. There will be more opportunity with Christian Watson (knee) expected to begin the year on the PUP list, and Jayden Reed (foot) could also be up in the air for Week 1. Golden has been practicing with the first-team offense since early in training camp and has gained valuable chemistry with quarterback Jordan Love. The speedy rookie is already in the conversation as a weekly WR4/flex in 2025.--Keith Hernandez

Green Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs (back) suffered what appeared to be a back injury during Tuesday's training camp practice, according to Rob Demovsky of ESPN. Doubs was "doubled over for a few minutes but walked off with his hands on his lower back." It's unclear if Doubs' injury is serious, but the Packers cannot afford anymore injuries to their receiving corps, as Christian Watson (knee) is already on the Physically Unable to Perform list, and receivers Jayden Reed (foot) and Dontayvion Wicks (calf) are also banged up. Watson is expected to miss at least the first four weeks of the regular season, while it's unclear yet if Reed, Doubs and Wicks are in danger of missing the start of the regular season. It all means that rookie first-rounder Matthew Golden, who has been very impressive in camp, should have a prominent role right away in his first NFL season. UPDATE: Doubs said he was "good" when asked by reporters after practice.--Keith Hernandez

Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said that wide receiver Christian Watson (knee) will likely start the regular season on the Physically Unable to Peform list. It means that Watson will have to miss at least the first four games of the year after tearing his ACL late last year, but Gutekunst said that Watson will be "chomping at the bit" to after that. "It's gonna take a lot of us to hold him back," Gutekunst said. The Packers have their bye in Week 5, so barring a setback in his recovery, it seems very plausible that the 26-year-old pass-catcher will be able to make his 2025 debut in a Week 6 showdown against the Cincinnati Bengals. When Watson returns, he'll be battling for targets in a crowded receiver room alongside Jayden Reed, Rombeo Doubs, Dontayvion Wicks and rookie first-rounder Matthew Golden.--Keith Hernandez

Free-agent running back Tyrion Davis-Price is signing an undisclosed deal with the Green Bay Packers on Tuesday, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Davis-Price heads to the NFC North after he was released by the Tennessee Titans in th middle of July. The 24-year-old was originally a third-round pick (93rd overall) by the San Francisco 49ers in the 2022 NFL draft out of LSU. He never panned out in the Bay Area in two seasons there, carrying the ball a combined 40 times for 120 yards and no touchdowns on the ground in only seven games. Davis-Price appeared in one game with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2024 and had three carries for seven yards. He will provide some depth in the RB room during the preseason behind Josh Jacobs, Emanuel Wilson, MarShawn Lloyd and Chris Brooks. Wilson and Lloyd have been banged up in camp.--Keith Hernandez

Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst said that quarterback Jordan Love (thumb) is undergoing a procedure to fix a ligament issue in his left thumb, per ESPN's Rob Demovsky. Gutekunst says the hope is that Love will return to practice next week, and that the injury is not expected to affect him long-term or impact his Week 1 availability. The good news for both Packers fans and fantasy managers is that the injury is on Love's non-throwing hand, but this is still something to monitor throughout the remainder of the preseason. Love profiles as a mid-to-low-end QB2 in fantasy who needs passing volume to be a consistent contributor. If he were to miss time, Malik Willis would be the favorite to step in at quarterback in Green Bay, which would significantly impact the fantasy outlook of the Packers' pass-catchers.--Will Brady

Andy Herman of 105.7 The Fan, Milwaukee, notes that Green Bay Packers wide receiver Matthew Golden made a few highlight receptions in Monday's practice, catching difficult passes "with ease." The former Texas Longhorn has garnered a good amount of praise during the lead-up to the regular season, and the news of fellow wideout Jayden Reed's (foot) injury makes this wide receiver room that much more up for grabs. The rookie offers Green Bay an explosive, field-flipping element they've desired for some time now. If he can seize his opportunity early on, Golden should be in store for a useful fantasy season. He's going just inside the top 100 currently in drafts, slotted directly in front of Reed at No. 98 in overall ADP. That disparity will grow if the latter's ailment lingers.--Alex Ciulla
