Keibert Ruiz (concussion) has begun a rehab assignment with Double-A Harrisburg after being sidelined since July 5 with a concussion. Ruiz went 0-for-2 in his first game Tuesday with one strikeout, one walk, and one run scored. He is expected to DH tomorrow. The 27-year-old has no set return timeline, and with the Nationals out of contention, there is little reason to rush him back. Ruiz was slashing .247/.277/.318 with a .595 OPS across 68 games before the injury.

Cincinnati Reds catcher
Tyler Stephenson (thumb) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville on Wednesday as he recovers from a left thumb fracture. The 29-year-old was placed on the 10-day injured list on August 17 and appears on track to return within the next couple of weeks. Stephenson caught two innings of
Chase Burns' simulated bullpen Tuesday and has also been taking batting practice and working additional bullpen sessions. He is slashing .226/.313/.393 with a .706 OPS and nine home runs in his sixth season. The Reds hope his return can spark their push in the NL Wild Card race.

Cincinnati Reds right-hander
Chase Burns (elbow), the second overall pick in the 2024 draft, threw two innings in a simulated game Tuesday and is expected to have one more live bullpen session this week before progressing further. Burns has been on the 15-day injured list since August 12 with a flexor tendon strain in his right elbow. The rookie has endured a difficult debut season, posting a 5.24 ERA and 1.34 WHIP across 34 1/3 innings before the injury. The Reds are hopeful he can return before season's end, then build toward a stronger sophomore campaign.

Toronto Blue Jays right-hander
Max Scherzer (back) is reportedly improving each day and remains on track to start Saturday against the New York Yankees. The 41-year-old tossed 67 pitches across four innings against the Milwaukee Brewers last Sunday before exiting with back tightness, but he has maintained his regular between-start routine and expects the injury to be minor. Scherzer owns a 4.11 ERA across 13 starts in his first season with Toronto after signing a one-year, $15.5 million deal. The Blue Jays hope he can deliver meaningful innings down the stretch in October.

Washington Nationals outfielder
Jacob Young (back) departed Tuesday's game early against the division-rival Miami Marlins due to back spasms, the team announced. The good news is that Young went 2-for-2 at the plate with an RBI, a run scored and his 14th stolen base of the year in the contest in D.C. before he was replaced in center field by
Robert Hassell III. If Young's back spasms linger and require him to go on the 10-day injured list, Hassell would surely take over as the Nats' primary center fielder. Outside of modest stolen-base production, the 26-year-old Young hasn't been much of an asset in fantasy in 2025 in his third year in the big league. He entered Tuesday's game against Miami with only one home run, 25 RBI and a .230/.298/.282 slash line with a career-low .581 OPS in 104 games.

Boston Red Sox rookie outfielder
Roman Anthony (back) left Tuesday's game early against the Cleveland Guardians at Fenway Park with an apparent back injury, according to Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald. Before Anthony was replaced in right field by
Nate Eaton, he went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a strikeout out of the leadoff spot. The 21-year-old looked uncomfortable after striking out in the fourth inning and hit the showers early. We should have an update on Anthony before long as to the seriousness of his back injury, but the BoSox can ill-afford to lose one of the best prospects in baseball in the middle of a pennant race in the final month of the regular season. He has hit a cool .291 (74-for-254) with eight homers, 31 RBI and four steals in his first 70 big-league games. Veteran
Rob Refsnyder could see more playing time if Anthony misses extended time.

Texas Rangers outfielder
Adolis Garcia (quadriceps) is not in the starting nine for Game 2 of the series against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday at Chase Field in Phoenix. Rookie
Alejandro Osuna is starting in right field and will hit seventh against Diamondbacks right-handed opener
Nabil Crismatt. Garcia injured his quadriceps muscle in Monday's win over Arizona and will take Tuesday off. For now, fantasy managers should conider the 32-year-old to be day-to-day and check back to see if he's playing on Wednesday. The two-time All-Star had 30-plus homers in 2021 and 2023, but he hasn't been able to capture that magic since and entered Tuesday with just 18 long balls and a .235/.277/.408 slash line in 125 games in 2025. The Cuban slugger was much better in August, though, going 23-for-80 (.288) with three homers, eight doubles and 11 RBI in 19 games.

San Diego Padres outfielder
Fernando Tatis Jr. (hamstring) is back in right field and will hit in his customary leadoff spot for Tuesday's ballgame at Petco Park against the visiting Baltimore Orioles and right-hander
Tyler Wells, who is making his first start of the year. Tatis dealt with hamstring tightness in the series finale against the Minnesota Twins on Sunday but stayed in the game before being scratched from the lineup for Monday's series opener against the O's as a precaution. The 26-year-old All-Star is back in there on Tuesday, though, and will look to get going at the plate in the final month of the season. The Dominican outfielder's power has been down of late and is hitting .231/.348/.385 with five RBI and seven runs scored in his last 10 games. Tatis only hit one homer while driving in 13 and stealing five bases in 27 games in August.

Mike Trout was scratched from the lineup for Tuesday's series opener in Kansas City against the Royals with a skin infection, according to the team. Joe Adell is the designated hitter and is batting cleanup, while
Chris Taylor is starting in right field and batting sixth against Royals right-hander
Michael Lorenzen. It's unclear how serious this is for Trout or if it will keep him out beyond Tuesday's contest. Fantasy managers will want to check back on Trout's status for Game 2 of the series in KC on Wednesday. The 11-time All-Star and three-time MVP is no longer in his prime and is striking out more than ever in his career, although he still has some pop left in his lumber. Through 381 at-bats this year, he's hitting .231 (88-for-381) with 20 homers, 54 RBI and 58 runs scored. He hit just .214 (18-for-84) with a homer, seven RBI and 38 K's in 24 games in August.

Detroit Tigers starting pitcher
Chris Paddack has been moved out of the rotation and into the bullpen, according to manager A.J. Hinch. Paddack has been horrible with a 5.40 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, and allowed eight home runs since being acquired by the Tigers at the trade deadline. It sounds like this is going to be a permanent move barring any injuries to other starters. The assumption is that
Sawyer Gipson-Long will take over in the starting rotation. Paddack is available out of the bullpen during Tuesday's game. Neither pitcher has performed well enough on the mound to warrant rostering in fantasy formats.

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher
Dustin May will move to the bullpen for this week. The team wants to keep all their starters on turn following Thursday's off day. Basically, the Red Sox want to make sure May gets into game action and not have 10 days off between starts. The team plans to go with a bullpen game on Wednesday, so possibly May pitches then. It sounds like May moving to the bullpen is only for this week and he'll get back into the rotation after that. May has struggled with his new team as he has allowed 11 earned runs over his last two starts. The right-hander might only be worth rostering in deep leagues given his struggles on the mound lately.

New York Mets outfielder
Jesse Winker (back) has been shut down from baseball activities and is likely going to miss the rest of the 2025 season. Winker began a rehab assignment last week, but was shut down after going hitless with four strikeouts in two games. The fact he isn't doing any baseball activities with less than a month left in the season means he's likely done for 2025. Winker has been out since the middle of July due to back inflammation. He'll finish his 2025 season with a .229/.309/.400 slash line with one home run and 10 RBI across 26 games. He's set to be a free agent after the season, so we'll see what happens with him.

Minnesota Twins starting pitcher
David Festa (shoulder) will be shut down for the rest of the 2025 season. Festa reported having returned discomfort in his shoulder following a rehab start on Thursday. The team has scheduled Festa to visit with a specialist over the next week. Regardless of that visit, Festa won't return to the mound in 2025. The team wants to make sure Festa doesn't require any surgeries that could impact his availability for the 2026 season. He'll finish this season with a 5.40 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, and a 53/19 K/BB ratio across 53.1 innings with the Twins. There should be another update on his status in the coming days.

Baltimore Orioles infielder
Jorge Mateo (hamstring) was activated off the 60-day injured list on Tuesday. Mateo has been sidelined since June due to a left elbow injury. He recovered from that injury, but suffered a hamstring strain during a rehab contest. Mateo is good to go now, but he figures to take on a bench role in Baltimore. That being said, Mateo probably won't offer much fantasy value as a role player. He has good speed, so he could be a possible DFS candidate when he does crack the starting lineup.

San Francisco Giants infielder
Casey Schmitt (elbow) is out of the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the Colorado Rockies. Schmitt is dealing with an elbow injury after getting hit by a pitch during Monday's contest. The X-rays came back clean, so Schmitt doesn't appear to be dealing with any fractures. For now, fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day.
Christian Koss will take over second base and bat eighth versus left-hander
