Roman Anthony Leaves Early With Back Injury
Roman Anthony (back) left Tuesday's game early against the Cleveland Guardians at Fenway Park with an apparent back injury, according to Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald. Before Anthony was replaced in right field by Nate Eaton, he went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a strikeout out of the leadoff spot. The 21-year-old looked uncomfortable after striking out in the fourth inning and hit the showers early. We should have an update on Anthony before long as to the seriousness of his back injury, but the BoSox can ill-afford to lose one of the best prospects in baseball in the middle of a pennant race in the final month of the regular season. He has hit a cool .291 (74-for-254) with eight homers, 31 RBI and four steals in his first 70 big-league games. Veteran Rob Refsnyder could see more playing time if Anthony misses extended time.
