ESPN's Adam Schefter said on the Pat McAfee Show on Monday that Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury is "not rushing to become a head coach again." A recent report suggested that Kingsbury will not interview for any head-coaching jobs around the league until the Commanders are eliminated from the postseason, and most of the head-coach jobs may be filled by then anyways. Schefter also says that he thinks Kingsbury is happy in D.C. and has an incredible young quarterback in rookie
Jayden Daniels to work with. Kingsbury's head-coaching tenure with the Arizona Cardinals didn't go so well, so he may not be rushing to become a head coach again so quickly, especially since he's still being paid by Arizona. The most alluring head-coach job (if it's still open) for Kingsbury will no doubt be with the Dallas Cowboys.

The Athletic's Tarran Reed writes that former Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll, who interviewed for the Las Vegas Raiders' head-coach job last week, is believed to be the Raiders' backup option at head coach behind Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, according to league sources. That means that Carroll, who also interviewed with the Chicago Bears, could be the favorite after Johnson was hired as the Bears' new head coach on Monday. Carroll has been an NFL head coach three times with the New York Jets (1994), New England Patriots (1997-99) and Seahawks (2010-23) and was also the head coach at USC from 2001-09. If the Raiders hired the 73-year-old, he'd be the oldest head coach in NFL history, but his resume is strong and Vegas is looking for a culture builder to take over.

According to ESPN's Ed Werder, the Dallas Cowboys and Washington Commanders run-game coordinator/running backs coach Anthony Lynn have mutual interest in Dallas' open head-coach job. However, with the Commanders upsetting the top-seeded Detroit Lions in the Divisional Round, Dallas won't be able to interview Lynn or Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury for at least another week. Lynn has a history with the Cowboys, serving as their RBs coach in 2005-06 under head coach Bill Parcells. Dallas finished third in rushing touchdowns in 2006 under Lynn thanks to the work of Marion Barber. In addition to his time in Dallas, Lynn was the head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers and went 33-31 in his four years at the helm. The Cowboys are searching for a new head coach this offseason after letting Mike McCarthy go after five years following the 2024 season.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Jacksonville Jaguars will hold in-person, second interviews this week for their vacant head-coaching position with former New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh, Las Vegas Raiders defensive coordinator Patrick Graham and Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Liam Coen. Saleh's second meeting with the team will come on Friday. He has also interviewed for the head-coaching jobs for the Raiders and Cowboys. If Saleh does not get the head-coaching gig in Jacksonville, he could return to San Francisco to be the defensive coordinator for the 49ers in a second stint. In a surprising move, the New York Jets fired Saleh in 2024 after just five games. The Jaguars are looking to replace Doug Pederson, who was fired right after the regular season after two years at the helm.

The New Orleans Saints are setting up an in-person interview with former Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy sometime this week, a source told NewOrleans.Football's Nick Underhill. After parting way with the Cowboys last week, McCarthy has become a popular head-coaching candidate around the league and interviewed for the Chicago Bears' head-coach job over the weekend. McCarthy has history in New Orleans after serving as the team's offensive coordinator under head coach Jim Haslett from 2000-04. He then was the offensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers before going 125-77-2 with a Super Bowl title in his tenure as the Green Bay Packers head coach. In his five seasons as the Cowboys' head coach, McCarthy went 49-35, but his failure in the postseason is ultimately what led to Dallas moving on.

Buffalo Bills placekicker
Tyler Bass connected on all three extra-point attempts and both field goal tries in his team's 27-25 victory over the Baltimore Ravens. Bass has been excellent since the calendar turned to December, with a missed extra point being his only blemish since Week 16. The 27-year-old failed to connect on ten total attempts in 2024 (five field goals) but went 4-for-4 on tries of 50+, including a 61-yarder. Even in the snow, he was able to drill one through from 51 yards out. With a Conference Championship bout on Sunday night against the Kansas City Chiefs on the horizon, the sixth-year pro should be afforded plenty more opportunities to knock through some kicks. The Bills and Chiefs matchup features a healthy 48-point over/under.

Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell said on Monday that he will consider replacing offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, who are both expected to become head coaches elsewhere, with coordinators from outside the organization. However, Campbell also said that the Lions already have coaches that are more than capable of being promoted into the offensive and defensive coordinator roles. The most important factor for Campbell when considering hiring new coaches for those roles is that the Lions keep their current identity in place that has made them so successful the last several years. Campbell said the Lions are going to stay true to who they are as a team despite a disappointing 45-31 upset loss to the Washington Commanders in the Divisional Round of the playoffs this past weekend.

Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn is set for a second, in-person interview with the New York Jets for their head-coaching job, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Glenn is one of the top head-coaching candidates this cycle despite the fact that the Lions defense crumbled and allowed 45 points in their Divisional Round upset loss to the Washington Commanders on Saturday. It's significant that Glenn is a finalist for the Jets, the team that made him a first-round pick. Glenn was an All-Pro in New York and played the first nine seasons of his career with the Jets. In addition to the Jets, though, Glenn is expected to be a finalist for the New Orleans Saints' head-coaching job. Although the Lions defense wasn't the same late this season due to a rash of injuries to key players, Glenn has risen as a top head-coaching candidate for his work with Detroit's D over the last several seasons.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that the Dallas Cowboys are scheduled to interview Seattle Seahawks assistant head coach Leslie Frazier for their head-coach vacancy on Monday. Although the meeting with Frazier is the Cowboys' last scheduled interview after they talked with Robert Saleh and Kellen Moore over the weekend, Rapoport gets the sense that the team isn't close to deciding on a new head coach and will talk with other candidates down the road. Frazier is a long-time defensive coordinator in the NFL, most recently for the Buffalo Bills from 2017-22. He took the year off in 2023 before joining the Seahawks in 2024. Frazier won a Super Bowl as a player in 1985 with the Chicago Bears and also served as the head coach with the Minnesota Vikings from 2011-13, going 21-32-1 during that span.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport gets the sense that the Dallas Cowboys aren't close at all to wrapping up their search for their next head coach. Dallas is expected to take their time and talk to more candidates after already interviewing Robert Saleh and Kellen Moore over the weekend. Rapoport said he wouldn't be surprised if the Cowboys put in a request to interview Washington Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury whenever Washington's season is over. NFL Network's Tom Pelissero mentions that Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady is a popular head-coaching candidate this cycle and has already interviewed with the Chicago Bears, Jacksonville Jaguars and New Orleans Saints for their head-coaching vacancies, so he could be another name that Dallas looks at. The Commanders and Bills are still alive in the postseason, so Dallas would have to wait to interview them.

According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the New Orleans Saints are bringing in Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver for a second interview for their head-coaching job on Wednesday, according to sources. Pelissero also reported that New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka will get a second interview for the job with the Saints this week. Weaver impressed in multiple head-coach interviews with the Washington Commanders and Atlanta Falcons last year and is now a finalist for the Saints job this cycle. Weaver, a former defensive end out of Notre Dame, was a former second-rounder in 2022 and had 15.5 sacks in 103 games with the Ravens and Texans. He just finished his first year as the Dolphins defensive coordinator after working as a defensive assistant with Baltimore from 2021-23.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports that the New Orleans Saints are flying in New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka on Monday for a second interview for their head-coaching job that will take place on Tuesday, according to sources. Despite never holding a head-coaching position in the NFL, Kafka has been a finalist for three head-coaching jobs in the last two cycles and is now a finalist in New Orleans. Kafka was a former Northwestern quarterback and was a fourth-round pick in the 2010 NFL draft. He went on to play in just four games with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2011. Kafka was with the Kansas City Chiefs from 2017-21, going from quality-control coach to quarterbacks coach for
Patrick Mahomes' first two years as a starter. He became the Giants' offensive coordinator in 2022 and added assistant head coach to his title this past season.

Philadelphia Eagles kicker
Jake Elliott had a mixed outing in the 28-22 victory over the Los Angeles Rams. He converted just one of three extra-point attempts, with the snowy conditions playing a significant role in the second attempt. However, Elliott remained reliable on field goals, going three-for-three this game and extending his streak to 10 makes in his last 11 attempts. While Elliott's missed extra points have raised some concerns—this marks the second consecutive game with a miss—his consistency on field goals has been crucial for the Eagles during their playoff push. As the Eagles prepare to host the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship, Elliott's ability to deliver under pressure will be vital in what could be another tightly contested playoff matchup.

The Las Vegas Raiders are interviewing former Detroit Lions executive and current Washington Commanders assistant general manager Lance Newmark for their general manager job on Sunday, according to sources. Newmark spent 26 seasons with the Lions before being hired by the Commanders last year. He reportedly has a strong relationship with both Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, who are both top head-coaching candidates for the Raiders. Johnson, specifically, is believed to be the favorite to become the Raiders' next head coach, and he could bring Newmark with him. Newmark's final position with the Lions before heading to D.C. was as senior director of player personnel.

According to FOX Sports' Jay Glazer, the Chicago Bears are scheduled to interview former Tennessee Titans running back Eddie George for their head-coaching job on Sunday. George has been the head coach at Tennessee State for the last four years and was named the Coach Of The Year for the Big South in 2024-25 while leading his team to a co-championship. Before starting his coaching career, George won a Heisman Trophy in college. In his time at Tennessee State, he's gone 24-22, including 9-3 during the regular season this year. The Bears fired Matt Eberflus after their Thanksgiving Day loss to the division-rival Detroit Lions, with Thomas Brown finishing out the year as the interim head coach. The Bears are casting a wide net for their next head coach and are hoping whoever they choose will be able to get more out of No. 1 overall pick
Caleb Williams.
