Milwaukee Brewers catching prospect
Jeferson Quero reportedly has a locker in the Brewers clubhouse. No official call-up has been announced, although it was confirmed that he is joining the taxi squad. Regular catcher
William Contreras suffered a hand bruise on Saturday and was out of the lineup on Sunday. Contreras said he wanted to play on Sunday, but the team held him out and he is considered day-to-day. If Quero were to be called up, it would be his major league debut. The Brewers' fourth-ranked prospect dealt with shoulder and hamstring injuries this season, and was limited to just 58 games at Triple-A this year, where he slashed .255/.336/.412 with six home runs and a solid 10.0 percent walk rate. The 22-year-old is running out of time to help fantasy managers in 2025, but he could be a factor next season and is a solid dynasty stash at the catcher position.

Arizona Diamondbacks pitching prospect
Austin Pope was called up from Triple-A Reno on Sunday for what will be his major league debut whenever he enters a game. The 26-year-old missed the first half of the season rehabbing from knee surgery, but has been active at Triple-A since the beginning of July. The right-hander posted a 4.60 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, and an 18.8 percent K-BB% in 26 appearances (25 in relief). The 6-foot-3 hurler will fill a middle relief role for the big league squad, and with a .288 opponent batting average against at Triple-A, along with no chance for saves, the former 15th-round draft pick is off the fantasy radar as the season winds down.

Milwaukee Brewers closer
Trevor Megill (elbow) is running out of time to return from the 15-day injured list in the regular season. Megill, out since Aug. 25 with a flexor strain, got through a bullpen session on Saturday. Manager Pat Murphy said afterward that a best-case scenario will include another bullpen on Tuesday, live batting practice on Friday, and an appearance in the Brewers' regular-season finale against the Cincinnati Reds on Sept. 28. Even if Megill does return for that game, the Brewers will spend the majority of the week continuing to rely on
Abner Uribe,
Aaron Ashby, and
Jared Koenig to close out games. Before landing on the IL, Megill converted 30 of 36 saves and pitched to a 2.54 ERA with a 1.15 WHIP, 58 strikeouts, and 17 walks in 46 innings.

The Milwaukee Brewers announced that they have placed right-hander
Brandon Woodruff (lat) on the 15-day injured list with a lat strain and recalled southpaw
Robert Gasser from Triple-A Nashville. Woodruff went on the IL retroactive to Sept. 18, meaning he'll be eligible to pitch when the playoff-bound Brewers open the NLDS on Oct. 4. It's unclear, however, whether Woodruff will be ready by then. We do know that Woodruff's regular season is over after he went 7-2 with a 3.20 ERA, a .91 WHIP, 83 strikeouts, and 14 walks over 12 starts and 64 2/3 innings. After missing all of 2024 with shoulder problems, the 32-year-old has once again looked like a front-line starter this season. The Brewers are left to hope he'll be available in October.

Danny Jansen will fill in behind the plate and hit seventh versus left-hander
Matthew Liberatore. Contreras left the Brewers' 3-2 win over the Cardinals on Saturday after he was struck in the hand on a swing on a catcher's interference. X-rays came back negative after the game, though, and Contreras told manager Pat Murphy that he'd be able to play Sunday. Murphy is understandably playing it safe with Contreras, one of the Brewers' most valuable players, as the postseason approaches. In yet another productive campaign, the 27-year-old has slashed .265/.360/.407 with 17 homers, 76 RBI, 89 runs scored, and six stolen bases across 147 games and 647 plate appearances.

Washington Nationals shortstop
CJ Abrams (shoulder) is sitting on Sunday against the New York Mets.
Nasim Nunez will fill in at short and hit ninth in a meeting with left-hander
Sean Manaea. Abrams left the Nationals' 5-3 win over the Mets on Saturday after jamming his right shoulder diving into third base in the top of the 11th. However, interim manager Miguel Cairo downplayed the severity of the injury and said that Abrams will be available to pinch-hit on Sunday. The 24-year-old has played 138 games this season and slashed .261/.321/.438 with 18 homers, 58 RBI, 89 runs scored, and 31 stolen bases in 609 plate appearances. Abrams did the majority of his damage before the All-Star break, though, as he has hit just .224/.273/.373 with six HRs, 20 RBI, and 11 steals in the second half of the season.

Wyatt Langford (side) is returning to the lineup for Sunday's series finale versus the Miami Marlins. After missing the first two games of the series with tightness in his side, Langford will play left field and bat second against right-hander
Eury Perez as the Rangers try to avoid a sweep. Langford has gone a miserable 9-for-53 (.170) with one home run, four RBI, three stolen bases, and 17:12 K:BB in 15 games this month. Despite his September struggles, Langford has hit a respectable .241/.342/.427 with 21 homers, 61 RBI, 72 runs, and 21 steals in 567 plate appearances this year.

Kansas City Royals outfielder
Jac Caglianone (elbow) is in the lineup against the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday. He'll play right field and bat eighth versus right-hander
Trey Yesavage. Caglianone left the Royals' 2-1 win early on Saturday after taking a pitch off the right elbow, but it won't cost him any additional time. The 22-year-old has a week left to try to end a difficult rookie campaign on a positive note. Since debuting on June 3, Caglianone has struggled to a .162/.239/.298 line with seven homers, 18 RBI, and 18 runs scored in 57 games and 218 plate appearances.

Detroit Tigers ace left-hander
Tarik Skubal will make his next start on Tuesday against the Cleveland Guardians, manager A.J. Hinch announced. That'll be the opener of a pivotal three-game series between two AL Central rivals going in opposite directions. The Tigers have been in firm control of the division for most of the year, but they've lost eight of nine, while the Guardians have won 10 in a row and 15 out of 16. With Detroit's lead over Cleveland having plummeted to one game, the Tigers will need Skubal in vintage form in his next outing. The reigning AL Cy Young winner has toyed with the Guardians in three meetings this season, having thrown 22 innings of one-run, 12-hit ball with 32 strikeouts against two walks. The Tigers won two of those matchups.

The Detroit Tigers have designated right-hander
Charlie Morton for assignment and selected righty
Tanner Rainey from Triple-A Toledo. Morton made what will go down as his final start for Detroit on Friday and coughed up six earned runs on five hits and two walks in 1 1/3 innings in a 10-1 loss to the Atlanta Braves. That continued a ghastly September for Morton, whom opposing offenses have teed off on for 17 earned runs on 17 hits in 12 frames this month. As a result, the Tigers - who are suddenly in a tight race for the AL Central with the Cleveland Guardians - have decided to move on from the 41-year-old less than two months after acquiring him from the Baltimore Orioles at the July 31 trade deadline. Morton combined for 140 2/3 innings between the two teams this season and went 9-11 with a 5.89 ERA, a 1.57 WHIP, 148 strikeouts, and 71 walks.

Milwaukee Brewers pitching prospect
Robert Gasser will start for the Brewers on Sunday on the road against the Cardinals. The 26-year-old is had been working his way back from Tommy John surgery and was activated from the 60-day injured list on August 30. Since then, he's mostly been working out of the bullpen at Triple-A, so he likely won't go too many innings on Sunday. The southpaw last pitched in the majors in mid-2024, posting a 2.57 ERA and 1.04 WHIP, but struck out only 16 batters in 28 innings pitched. The Brewers are favored in this one, but fantasy managers may want to seek other options and there are surely better DFS options.

Los Angeles Dodgers two-way superstar
Shohei Ohtani continued his power surge during Saturday's game against the San Francisco Giants. Ohtani went 1-for-3 at the plate which included two walks and his 53rd home run of the season. His 141 runs scored is now the fifth highest total since 2000. Ohtani is also only one homer shy from matching his career high from last year. It's going to be tough for anyone to wrestle away the National League MVP from Ohtani.

Cincinnati Reds pitching prospect
Rhett Lowder (oblique) was scratched from his second scheduled rehab start on Friday after the hurler's shoulder recovery from his first rehab start hadn't progressed to the point where he felt comfortable going back out there. The Reds' second-ranked prospect underwent an MRI, which showed no structural damage to the shoulder, so the team is just going to take it slow. With the Triple-A regular season ending on Sunday, it's not clear what the plan is from here, but as of now, the 23-year-old is not expected to pitch in the Arizona Fall League. With an offseason to recover and prepare, look for the right-hander to be back in the big leagues next year. He posted a 1.17 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, and a 6.3 percent K-BB% in six starts for the Reds in 2024.

Cleveland Guardians pitching prospect
Daniel Espino (shoulder) made his long-awaited return to the mound on Saturday at Triple-A Columbus. The Guardians' 29th-ranked prospect, who was the team's top-ranked pitching prospect back in 2022, has been working his way back from various arm injuries, including shoulder surgery this past March. The 24-year-old faced five batters in 2/3 of an inning pitched on Saturday, yielding three earned runs on three hits and no walks while striking out one. Pitching in regular-season game action for the first time since 2022 was a victory in itself, and from here, the former first-round draft pick will head to the Arizona Fall League to compete with some of the game's top prospects to make up for lost time and prepare for 2026. With a fastball that has touched 103 mph, he could debut in the majors next season, and fantasy managers should be on the lookout, as he was once touted as a future frontline starter.

Los Angeles Angels outfielder
Mike Trout accomplished a huge milestone during Saturday's game against the Colorado Rockies. Trout put his name in the history books when he blasted a 485-foot home run in the eighth inning. He became the 59th player in history to reach 400-homers and 200-plus stolen bases by his age 33-season. He joins the elite company of Willie Mays, Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa, and Alex Rodriguez. Trout is certainly a first-ballot Hall of Famer, but it would be nice to see some postseason success before his career is over. This season, Trout is slashing .229/.358/.414 with 22 home runs, 59 RBI, and two steals.
