Matt Olson 2020 Player Outlook: High-End Power Option at First Base
5 years agoOakland Athletics first baseman Matt Olson showed once again that he stands toward the top of a position where power is abundant, crushing 36 home runs with 73 runs scored and 91 RBI. The 25-year-old managed to put up these numbers despite missing roughly a month in the beginning of the season due to a hand injury. He also didn’t hurt fantasy owners with a .267 batting average compared to a .254 career mark. Olson hit the ball harder than ever in 2019 (50.3%) while also implementing an uppercut swing (18.3-degree launch angle), combining for a lethal offensive effect. Olson is currently being drafted at about pick 70 on average, putting him as the seventh first baseman off the board. There are plenty of quality first basemen in this range, but, given his elite batted-ball profile and a full season of production, he may be worth a reach as early as pick 60.
