The New York Jets announced on Saturday that they placed edge rusher Jermaine Johnson (Achilles) and wide receiver Irvin Charles (knee) on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list. The team also placed linebacker Aaron Smith (undisclosed) on the Active/Non-Football Injury list. Johnson suffered a torn Achilles in Week 2 of last season and was unable to participate in OTAs or minicamp during the spring. However, head coach Aaron Glenn said that barring any setbacks, the 26-year-old defensive back should be ready for the start of the regular season in early September. The Jets can activate Johnson and Charles from the PUP list at any time during training camp. Johnson, a former first-rounder, was a Pro Bowler in 2023 when he had 55 tackles (36 solo), 7.5 sacks, 11 tackles for loss, 16 QB hits, an interception returned for a touchdown and seven pass breakups in 17 starts.--Keith Hernandez
