Jacob deGrom Making Progress After Tommy John Surgery
1 year agoTexas Rangers right-hander Jacob deGrom (elbow) is just four months removed from his second Tommy John surgery but already has full range of motion and is two months away from doing more extensive upper-body exercises in his recovery. He should resume throwing not far beyond the new year and expects to be on a mound in spring training in 2024. deGrom has received encouragement from doctors that he might hit the short side of a 14- to 18-month recovery period since his first TJ surgery was back in 2010. "My arm feels pretty close to normal already," deGrom said. The 35-year-old lasted just six starts in 2023 in his first year in Texas after signing a five-year, $185 million deal. He has only 32 starts in the last three seasons combined, making him an extreme risk/reward fantasy asset heading into next year.
