Gregory Polanco Tests Positive For COVID-19
4 years agoPittsburgh Pirates manager Derek Shelton announced on Friday that outfielder Gregory Polanco tested positive for COVID-19 and gave the team permission to share the information. It explains why Polanco has been absent from the team's summer camp of late. He'll have to test negative twice before he's allowed to rejoin the team, making it unlikely that he'll be ready for Opening Day next Friday. As a result, the Pirates could have Guillermo Heredia and Jose Osuna split time in right field early on. Shoulder injuries basically wiped out Polanco's 2018 and 2019 seasons, and optimistic fantasy owners were hoping that he could break out this year with a return to full health. While he'll get a late start, Polanco could still surprise folks, but he'll probably go undrafted in the majority of mixed leagues now.
