Brandon Belt 2019 Player Outlook- Still Searching for Breakout
6 years agoBrandon Belt appeared to be in line for a long-awaited breakout in the early portions of the 2018 season, racking up 11 home runs, 31 RBI, and 32 runs scored all while batting over .300 through April and May. However, he was ultimately held back by two stints on the disabled list, something all too common for Belt throughout his career. Heading into the 2019 season, he continues to carry an appealing fantasy profile highlighted by one of the steepest launch angles in the league as well as above-average batted ball rates. Of course, he still calls AT&T Park home, which is notorious for sapping power from hitters -- especially left-handers. Health and his home park have combined to provide a less inspiring picture than his peripheral skills suggest as he has yet to surpass 20 home runs or 80 runs scored in a single season. Currently buried in early ADP (326), the only reason to draft Belt is name recognition or desperation. He’s a flier at best in shallow leagues and is an uncomfortable grab in deeper leagues due to his lengthy injury history, which has allowed him to surpass 600 plate appearances only once in his career.
