Andrelton Simmons Heading To The Twins
Andrelton Simmons agreed to a one-year, $10.5 million deal on Tuesday, according to sources familiar with the deal. It was reported earlier that Simmons was the Phillies top priority after re-signing catcher J.T. Realmuto, but Simmons had other ideas. Simmons will be Minnesota's starting shortstop, with Jorge Polanco moving to second base and Luis Arraez expected to see plenty of at-bats in a super-utility role. The 31-year-old Simmons is a Gold Glove-caliber defender at shortstop, but his bat has lagged behind his whole career. He made some strides in 2017 and 2018, but he hit just .264/.309/.364 with seven home runs and 40 RBI in 103 games in his last full season with the Angels in 2019. You might get double-digit stolen bases from him, but he's mainly middle-infield depth in deep mixed and AL-only leagues.
