Alec Bohm, Spencer Howard Could Be Options For Phillies
4 years agoIf Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Jay Bruce, who has a .219/.287/.445 slash line since 2018, struggles, the Phillies could turn to third baseman Alec Bohm at designated hitter. Baseball's No. 30 prospect could also see playing time if center fielder Adam Haseley doesn't hit enough, which would cause the Phillies to use either Scott Kingery or Jean Segura in center field, opening up third base for Bohm. The 23-year-old finished last year hitting .305/.378/.518 with 21 homers in 125 minor league games. Philly's rotation is up in the air behind Aaron Nola, Zack Wheeler and Jake Arrieta, so Howard, baseball's No. 34 prospect, could see a prominent role early this season. Howard made great progress with his changeup last year and had a 2.03 ERA with 94 K's and 16 walks in 71 minor league innings.
