Jonah Tong Earns First Win, Will Make Another Start
Jonah Tong earned his first career win in his major league debut on Friday. Facing the Miami Marlins, Tong threw five innings and allowed four runs (one earned) on six hits while piling up six strikeouts against no walks in a 19-9 blowout. He fired 63 of 97 pitches for strikes and reached a maximum velocity of 97.7 mph. After the game, manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters that the 22-year-old will remain part of a six-man rotation. For the time being, Tong will join David Peterson, Kodai Senga, Sean Manaea, Nolan McLean, and Clay Holmes as the Mets' starters. The club hasn't announced a date for Tong's next start, but considering he leads the minors in strikeouts and ranks as one of the game's top pitching prospects, fantasy managers may want to consider scooping him up.
