Horse For The Course: PGA DFS Course History - 2026 Memorial Tournament

Scottie Scheffler - PGA DFS Lineup Picks, Daily Fantasy Golf, Betting Picks

Todd McGill's DraftKings, FanDuel PGA DFS picks for the 2026 Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club. Picks for daily fantasy golf based on course history.

Last week was another epic showdown at Colonial, which ended in fireworks, as Russell Henley birdied his final three holes of regulation before throwing a dart in the first playoff hole to claim victory over Eric Cole. It was also a strong argument for the historic property to be among the higher-tier tournaments if the newly proposed framework comes to fruition in a couple of years.

Even with the difficulty presented at Hogan's Alley, things take another step up this week, as the PGA Tour returns to Muirfield Village for the Memorial Tournament. It's the one time of the year when the golfing world knows we will hear from Jack Nicklaus, the longtime host of this event and the place he calls home.

All of the tour's best are in attendance this week, with many looking to sure up their games before arriving at Shinnecock in two weeks. Muirfield is a brute of a venue with the beefiest, most penalizing rough of any non-major on the tour schedule year in and year out. And with that difficulty comes a tried and true cluster of names that continually find success here, so strap in for this week.

Horse For The Course is an article highlighting players in this week's field with elite course history and is part of our free PGA DFS content here at RotoBaller. 2026 Memorial Tournament

This will be the first non-major/Players tournament since the API that will feature both Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy. With the pedestal of both players over the last few seasons and the ever-evolving schedule that seems to re-designate which tournaments are important every year, these are the only two men who haven't really cowered to the changes.

Many tour pros have commented on the mental drain that comes in the first half of the season, with multiple stretches that force guys into playing four or five weeks in a row. They don't have the same luxury of turning down $20 million purses as the world's number one and two players do.

There should be a little more buzz surrounding this year's tournament, as it is the 50th anniversary of one of the PGA Tour's best events. Jack Nicklaus has also been the tournament host since its inaugural playing in 1976.

If that still isn't enough reason to be excited this week, Scottie Scheffler is also looking to join Tiger Woods as the only player to win this event three consecutive times. All interested eyes should be on Dublin, Ohio, come Thursday.

Muirfield Village Golf Club

Par 72 - 7,569 | Greens: Creeping Bentgrass | Designed By: Jack Nicklaus/Desmond Muirhead

To picture what it takes to find lasting success here, look no further than what Scottie Scheffler has done here the past two years. The ball striking prowess and incredible short game have carried him around this golf course, as they do most everyone else. It's as complete a test as these players will have in the States the rest of the way, outside of the U.S. Open.

This is as big a grind from tee to green that these guys will see the rest of the year, outside of Shinnecock, which tends to bring many of the best players to the surface to hunt down one of the more coveted titles.

Fairways are windy and narrow, with little room for error on certain holes. However, approach play returns to its throne as the leading statistic to look for when comparing data. Other important metrics to note for the week are bogey and three-putt avoidance, par-4 scoring, and SG around the green.

The Horse

Scottie Scheffler

Notable Finishes: 1st ('24 & '25), 3rd ('21 & '23)

I've put Scottie Scheffler's name in this position a handful of times already this season, but his performance at Muirfield Village might be the most dominant display of them all. The 29-year-old's total strokes gained on this golf course over the last five years nearly triple that of any other player in the field.

He's been nothing short of perfection tee to green, as he's averaged -0.232 strokes gained putting over his last 16 rounds. There have been many scrutinizing discussions on Scheffler's ball striking thus far in 2026, so it's hard to see him living up to the precedent he's established here.

Nevertheless, even with his decline this season, he still leads the PGA Tour in strokes gained tee to green. And his putting has arguably been a bigger strength, at least through the first handful of events in his campaign. So, it may be a slightly different formula coming into this week, but no one would be surprised if the end result is the same.

The Ponies

Si Woo Kim

Notable Finishes: 4th ('23), T9 ('21), Top 20 ('20, '22, '24)

Through 15 events played this season, Si Woo Kim has given himself as many chances at victory as one could hope for. It hasn't panned out thus far, as his week at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson roughly 14 days ago proved how difficult it is to get the job done on the PGA Tour.

He'll have another opportunity this week at Jack's place, where his consistent ball striking and sound short game have allowed him to be in the mix five of the last six years. It's still a big question as to whether he can actually get the job done at this big of a ballpark, but his ability to find his way around this golf course is hard to deny at this point.

Rory McIlroy

Notable Finishes: Top 10 ('10, '11, '16, '18, '23), Top 20 ('14, '21, '22, '24)

After the scheduling didn't have Rory McIlroy in the field last year, he has returned this season to improve his long and, at times, frustrating run at Muirfield Village. He's managed to be a part of the conversation a lot, but never finishing higher than fourth.

This golf course has endured many facelifts since McIlroy's debut appearance in 2010. But his most consistent run of finishes has been since the most recent renovation before the 2021 event. The quick answer is that the driving accuracy has been better in recent years, but the real answer lies in more consistency on and around the greens.

We haven't seen the reigning Masters Champion since Aronimink, but another strong run at winning this historic tournament wouldn't be surprising at all.

Patrick Cantlay

Notable Finishes: 1st ('19, '21), T3 ('22), 4th ('18)

Once dubbed the most dangerous player at Muirfield a few years ago, Patrick Cantlay will look to find magic here once again. With Scheffler having his way here since he became the most unstoppable player in golf, and Patty Ice falling off in form over the last couple of seasons, he isn't quite the threat he used to be.

He has been impressive in spurts from tee to green this season, averaging 1.064 strokes gained per round. It's been the putter that has tanked his chances a few times, but he's never truly shone in that department, despite the moniker of being one of the most clutch putters in the world. However, it's always been a reliable stroke gainer for him at Muirfield.

Given the ball striking numbers he has produced this season and his track record of fine putting on this golf course, it's easy to figure another strong showing could be on the horizon.
