5:00 AM: Victory 5 vs. Dominus Esports (-305)

This matchup is a story of upheaval; both teams were disappointing at best in the spring split with V5 looking like the worst team on the planet en route to winning only a single game. That's right; they lost 16 series with 15 0-2 losses, only picking up a single game win. Dominus at least managed to pick up some momentum at the end of the spring split going 5-4 over their final nine series, but have now had another tumultuous offseason. Xiye, Mark, and Gala all left the team to be replaced by Twila, Mitsuki, and Helper. I think these moves initially is a downgrade at the carry positions with a slight upgrade to the support. V5 are looking to improve on the worst season ever they parted way with their coach and added a gaggle of new players, most notably buibui and weiwei from SNG. I think they have upgraded at top, jungle, and support. So with both teams in flux, DMO retained enough of their previous squad to have some continuity advantage.

This match is starting to look very similar to the LNG/SNG one from day one. We've got a couple of lower-tier teams facing off, but one of them is favored more than they should be. I think this can be the first win of the year for the side of V5. Buibui is not as good as Natural, but he can also play tanks and hold up the weak side. Weiwei hasn't played jungle since Summer 2109, but he compares favorably to Xioapeng, and he should have some chemistry with buibui in the top lane. Twila in the mid lane renamed to Xiaowei for spring split but has gone back to his old Gamertag. He has been with DMO since they promoted to the LPL, and I would expect him to have the advantage over whoever V5 starts at mid. Mole is the starter, and he was a lone bright spot on this team during spring. With the top side of the map more secure, he won't have to try to put as much on his shoulders, which should help. The bot lanes for both squads are relative unknowns. Samd and ppgod starting for V5, and Helper and Mitsuki for DMO doesn't give us much to go on. I will slightly side with the DMO bot lane because they have a full split played together on the DMO youth developmental team.

So all told, I think I have a slight lean to DMO here in this one, but I likely will play some V5 as well on Saturday morning to try to differentiate from the field. The old DMO squad wasn't great, and the new DMO squad isn't either many will discount V5 due to their putrid spring split. V5 has added some legit LPL level talent to the roster and should be able to compete to get out of the basement this split. Nearly everyone on the side of V5 carries a significant risk of being subbed out at some point, as they will be looking to experiment to find a winning combo from the many new players on the team. The DMO side is safer as I don't expect them to sub anyone win, lose, or draw.

Top DMO Plays:

  • Xiaopeng - JNG
  • Natural - TOP
  • Helper - ADC
  • Mitsuki - SUP

Top V5 Plays:

  • Mole - MID
  • Weiwei - JNG
  • V5 Team Slot

7:00 AM: OMG vs. RNG (-170)

Here we have a match between two teams that entered spring split with high hopes, looked to meet those hopes at the mid-point, and then disappointed during the final weeks. These two met in week two of the spring split with RNG winning 2-1. Once again, I like targeting underdogs at the start of the split, and RNG will be integrating a new top-laner into the system. Royal had a better drake percentage, baron percentage, and better vision numbers in the spring split. That shouldn't have changed with the top lane swap, and I think they are the better team overall. OMG released their starting lineup, something I'm going to wait on before my articles release from here on out, Aliez will be starting top lane. New will be starting for RNG up top, and I'm not too fond of it, but I also don't think that kills them. I like RNG here, and I'll go so far as to call for the sweep. OMG will only be good for longshot GPP plays when you need to fill out the final ten lineups of your 150 MME lineups. I think that OMG is good enough for a team to keep RNG from experimenting with different lineup combinations, and outside of New, I don't consider anyone to be a sub-risk.

Top RNG Plays:

  • Betty - ADC
  • Ming - SUP
  • Xiaohu - MID
  • XLB - JNG

Summary

  1. Two game slates can be difficult, and again roster construction will be paramount. I like the first set better for DFS, but V5 especially has a lot of risk of in-game substitution. That may lead me to take more RNG players
  2. V5/DMO will be the better game for DFS purposes with more action than the OMG/RNG series. I like DMO but splitting exposure here and mixing both sides.
  3. RNG will likely need to sweep to keep up in the points department. Both they and OMG are slower and controlled than DMO/V5. RNG are also safer from substitutions and other nonsense I hope they have solved some of their draft issues.
  4. Fanduel pricing is rediculous with both OMG and RNG priced above DMO and V5 players. Over there, I will likely load up on DMO with a V5 one-off then fill out my lineup with remaining RNG plays.
